Far Cry 3 Thread

You only get that when you're on a mission.

You can also turn off much off the 'help', such as the tagging system for enemies. Spend a little time changing the settings and get out of the first couple of start missions and you'll be happy.

I think some of them remove the prompts for QTEs though so some guessing could be required.

Thinking I might start a new game of realistic with all the UI removal mods and such and then play through trying to do all the outposts, radio towers and crafting everything on the first island.

Edit : Found one that sounds pretty good - http://kotaku.com/5973989/this-excellent-far-cry-3-mod-will-make-your-second-pass-a-whole-new-thing

Really like the sound of most of the changes.

They did this with the first Far Cry, not sure about the second but it was called Fear Cry or something for Far Cry veterans, only found out about it a few months ago.

Was really confused last night, couldn't work out where the Skrillex/Damien Marley music was coming from, then it twigged! Quite quickly gone down as one of my favourite all time gaming moments.

When/where was this? I remember music, but not sure if I discovered the source or not. Wrap it in spoiler tags if you please.

I'll play through normal, then go through again with that second mod. Sounds the best ! :D

Call of Pripyat is literally the only game I've completed using this extremity. I've come very close with many others, but eventually suffered at the hands of insurmountable odds.
I don't play games with the intention of completing them, instead I treat them as an endurance test of sorts. The further I get, the better.

My friend introduced me to this style of play. He has completed the likes of Resident Evil 4 and Bioshock on the hardest difficulties without dying, which must be some sort of record.
To date, my current accomplishments include completing Left 4 Dead 2's first campaign on expert with just the AI! Also, I very nearly completed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by refining my character using an almost perfect levelling method.
It takes extreme patience, but this method is truly unlike anything I've experienced as far as gaming is concerned. It produces quite the adrenaline rush, since you're fighting for survival to avoid such consequences as starting over.

Wow.

Fair play, but I really CBA with that :o

I think like you when i die in a game, i'm that tempted to start from scratch, but in the end i just power on through and learn from my mistakes and it makes me into an even better player.

Edit: Although, i'm tempted to start Far Cry 3 again with that mod that was posted, because it is pure survivalist and i love playing games on the hardest settings they can be.

Yeah, I installed that one and done something else to remove the whole UI :D

Its really good. Turned off the weapon tagging and all that stuff as well.

Well Just completed - play time 27hrs 20mins, with 82% of game completed/experienced.

Really really good game. Solid combat model, engaging side activities and good story. Ending was a bit meh, but not a letdown.

Can't say whether game of the year (dishonored slightly better) but certainly amazing fun. I never once got bored or felt I had nothing to do and I am slightly sad it is over. I don't think I will be playing again (too many amazing games to move onto), but will keep installed for the time being for any DLC they may release.

There is DLC in the making, hopefully they put the Great White Shark back into the game but in deep water and not with the Bull Shark, because you can swim out into deeper water and the Bull Shark(s) don't follow you, so a Great White Shark in the deeper water would make you think twice.

It would also be nice if they allowed the knife to have a weapon slot, so you can use it whenever you feel like it and underwater to defend yourself, or implement harpoons into the game.

You must spend a lot of time swimming out at sea lol, I normally nick as boat or jetski myself. Even to get the Shark skin I nicked a boat then stood on deck and "fished" from there with my bow :D

I have to admit, I played FC3 for a whole hour and gave up because I was so disappointed. After watching videos I am tempted to reinstall and give it more of a proper chance. When does it stop being so linear? I hated the fact that it said "go here, kill him" but would fail you if you left the direct path.

Those that have completed it, is it worth investing time into?

I wouldnt say it was linear at all! If you go into a mission area then I think your there until you complete that mission but the rest of the time your free to wander around and do all the side quests.

Just don't enter the vicinity of the area, it's usually marked with a red circle on the minimap.

You don't have to do the missions straight away, i spent a good amount of time taking towers, outposts etc before i started doing missions.

Cool I'll give it a whirl. So you could go wipe out the bad guys then start missions, or do they just respawn?

When you take out an outpost you control the area, so no more enemies show up, you can also snipe the guys in the mission area before you enter it.
