Cable break at exchange = no phone and Internet!

Pfft, I was woken up the other day at 10am, some guy from BT in a bulldozer type thing trying to run over the telegraph pole outside my house. :D

Apparently it needed knocking down and a new one needed putting in because it could have "fallen down at any time" despite him needing a good 5 or 6 attemtps with the dozer to knock it over. They didn't even warn us they were coming either! :(

Going over his head. Same as how he doesn't work for that law firm.

Also a month without Internet is more than enough to cancel but the question is who you gonna go with? If the lines cut between you and the exchange, nobody besides virgin media cable or a wireless provider can serve you. If its post exchange, anyone using the OpenReach network would have the same issue.

at least if he has the contract terminated he isn't paying for a service he can't use! he can get a new ADSL contract when the line is repaired or go to virgin if it's available :)

I deal with this on a daily basis, and as it's Openreach who are at fault you're going to have fun getting them to cancel.

Unfortunately I'm the guy on the other end of the phone that says no. :p

I don't understand how people can't live without the Internet - I did 2 months and I'm still alive.

- Go outside
- Go to shops instead of doing it online
- Go to the bank
- Talk to people in person
- There's this amazing thing called 3G, use it to keep track of emails etc
- Go for walks etc rather than sitting online

Come on guys, it's not that bad. Anyway the ISP will likely credit the time the service is down.

They'll refund him / give him free time either way. They'll probably just wait until the issue is fixed. It's a bit strange that it's been so long though. I assume he's actually registered a fault.

If he cancels though, he'll likely need to wait several weeks to be reconneted and pay an installation free. He's better riding it out.

so now over a month since the first post, and still no phone service and broadband and an ever increasing list of potential fix dates that I see come and go....

I raised an order with BT, only to be hit with a letter to say that I would be hit with £117 contract breakage fee...... pretty fed up with this.... so going to see out my contract and never going back to them again....

Are you still sans phone?

If so start the complaints proceedure with OFTEL (or is it OFCOM now?), as IIRC phone faults are meant to be fixed within a set time limit that is fairly short.

A month is taking the mickey, even over Christmas.

Plug your phone in somewhere with good signal for 3G, install something like Mightytext so you can use your phone (Texting and calling anyway) remotely, then set it up as a WiFi hotspot :)

So basically, it doesn't bother me, so it shouldn't bother you? Do you ever get dizzy with the entire universe spinning around you?

Good luck. I work for a Brewery and one of our pubs has been without a connection since mid December. BT have missed three appointments and it's now been stuck with the faults department for over a week. Scummy company that I'd love to see die.

Sounds about right! Problem we have is they dominate the monopoly and i think they abuse that fact!
