iPad Mini...

The only thing I think the mini could be useful for is gaming the pad is too big and the touch is too small....

Might pick one up when the next version comes out.

Got an IP4S and pad at the moment.

Well I picked one up today, decided stuff it, belated christmas present...

My first impression is it's a really nice size, but then I realised that already, however the screen really is a bit so so. I was hoping because of the smaller screen the resolution would be better (have a touchpad as well) but for things like forum browsing and especially magazine reading (one of the things I bought it for) the text is a bit soft, I feel a bit like I'm losing my sight a little. I kinda assumed that already though. I should have also checked before I bought it that the guardian app was free (is on WP and on the touchpad), I may have to decide whether to subscribe to that or the Times now...

I now need to get the camera connection kit to see how good it will be for it's primary use... And some kind of case. I'm not a huge fan of big bulky cases but plan on using it on the train to work and when travelling abroad (primary use again) so want something sturdy. Maybe the smartcover and a fairly tough slip case? Any recommendations on the latter?

For cases don't look any further then "Jammy lizard" goggle it . Half the price of most other places and excellent quality too .

I'll find out what brand my girlfriends case is, it's really good - sturdy plastic back and smart cover thing built in, cost $35. The speck one I got my mum is good too, but that doesn't have a smart cover, just a cover... Which I found out after I got back from the states, so kinda hard to return it to Target. :)

Looking at their eBay store quickly they look like pretty bulky cases. I either want a hard back to take travelling or just a slip/sock got general use. Their covers look very cheap compared to apples though!

Just bought this. Fairly cheap and will be interesting to see what it is like. It'll be useful to carry it on the tube every day as I don't normally carry a bag.

Still need to get a hard back and smartcover I think for more rugged times.

iTunes is a horrible peice of software. The iOS operating system itself is almost as horrible - everything you want to do is restricted, even simple things like drag and drop are not possible and you need to faff about with iTunes. Want to open a file in two different apps? Of course you can't do that. The screen resolution is low, the pixel density is poor and it was ridiculously overpriced.

But I love it. The form factor and usability the form factor brings make up for everything. It's such a joy to hold, its perfectly proportioned. It's big enough to watch video on when travelling, it's small enough not to be a pain to lug around, and it's light and beautifully crafted. Once you start using it rather than evaluating it you even stop noticing the pixelation and the screen resolution.

I wouldn't be without it now.

But I'd be first in the queue to install ANYTHING BUT iOS on it.

I've never had any problems with iTunes - old or new. It's never crashed or failed me in any way. The new version is actually better, once you get used to the layout changes.

It's just stupid and I don't even want to use it. I just want to drag and drop content onto my device like I can with every other portable device I have. I don't want anything 'managed'. I just want it to show up as a portable hard drive.

The first Apple product I ever owned was an iPod. It was a present from my parents for my 30th birthday and didn't want to tell them I didn't like Apple so I kept it. For many years I fought iTunes for the same reasons as you stated above. However, now that I've moved over to Apple completely it all seems to work and it doesn't bother me anyway. Using iTunes is like breathing, its automatic I don't notice it.

I'm reading Steve Job's auto biography and I'm beginning to understand why iOS is closed. He was convinced that by creating a closed easy to use system it would attract the masses (as opposed to those who like to tinker).

I don't know if I agree with his vision but over the years he has managed to convince my family to part a lot of money to his company so he must have done something right! :D

If you have everything Apple then iTunes (and now iCloud) holds it all together and works very well. It's when you want your Apple 'stuff' to interact with something that is the wrong format that you end up with a problem.

I wouldn't sat wrong, different formats do cause problems. Now that all my devices are Apple everything is always in sync and some of the features are really nice and useful.

For example, I bought a CD on my way into work on iTunes last Friday. On my way home I was browsing the web on the iPad and listening to the purchased album on my iPad. My purchases had synced during the day and I didn't need to do anything to make that happen! :)

Tempted to get one today, finally have some spare cash but I suppose I could ear-mark it for other things, but then again I haven't bought any new Apple product for a long time...WHAT DO I DO?! :p:o

Wait..............! I'm almost sure they'll release a newer version around Easter. :D (That's what I'm hoping anyway!)

I seriously doubt they'll release an updated Mini in Easter. Would be crazy to do it this early considering the issues with stock over Christmas.

And no-one expected iPad 4 last October, my good man. :D

But that was just to push Lightning. Granted it upped the graphics processing, but I'm assuming everyone is expecting the iPad Mini to get Retina in Easter, which will just not happen.
