BMW and M Power Owners

There is an app that allows you to control a few functions on the car remotely, lights, locks, heating but you can also use it to Google a map and then send it to the car. You get into the car, open up messages and there are the address details, phone numbers which you can call or use for Navigation.

For your BMW that's awesome :) I'd use that a lot

for the iPhone

That's a shame :(

Do you actually use sat nav enough for that to be any issue? Fair enough if you're using the car as a business tool to visit varied customers but for personal use I find I need to use a sat nav once every couple of months if that.

I dont use Satnav all the time, no. Probably on average a few times a month, maybe less. But when not in use it sits on the map screen showing where I am and also updating the map with live traffic info.

Is the erratic heater fan in my e36 a sign of the fsu/hedgehog thing failing? Its only like it for the first five minutes then behaves itself after that, I've also noticed the battery going flat after a few days where before it would last over a week easily, apparently it makes it come on with the ignition off

I'd not even buy a £5k 2nd car as a run-around if it didn't have integrated Nav. Since I've had it in my last and current car (even if not the best implementations) I've come to realise that there really is no substitute for the convenience of having it all built in. As highlighted above, in the right car it really does make a difference come resale time, and so the cost to you really isn't the same as the capital outlay on day one.

As for bronze and brown/red... I can't imagine a car colour choice inspired by an autumn day is going to be in too much demand, so maybe the nav point is moot.

Bright/bold exterior colours need a black interior.
Grey/silver/black exterior in a sporty model needs ideally red leather but can make do with black. Trim should be silver or black.
Grey/silver/black in a less sporty trim interior can be cream/beige leather and wood trim (also works with dark blue exteriors).

Exceptions for supercars or making a statement.

Well, what a 'bright' display of originality here. Personally, I'm a photographer, brown/reds and autumn are most definitely the best season colorwise, these are 'warm' colors and they work really well together obviously.

Again, there /are/ discerning people with a bit more taste than the rest of the army or robots sticking to your stereotypes... Even on the second hand market.

Being lectured on my color sense by a british person is rather priceless ;-)

The new A3 and 1 series have cool pop up screens which are a lot closer to the windscreen which mean you can look at both easily.

Don't forget the A1 Nath. :p

Serious? What car can you even buy for £5k with sat nav built in that is not 10 years old and up to date.

I can see why sat nav is 'expected' on a expensive car like a F10 etc and would probably be incredibly useful for people driving about everday for business. Personally I've stuck with a TomTom though hate sticking it to the windscreen (also refuses to stay stuck to the Mini's windscreen for more then 30 seconds :p) so put it down near the cup holder/12v socket in such a position where I can see it at a glance.

Yes, serious. My partner helped his sister buy her first car about a year ago and managed to pick up a decent 2.0T mk5 golf with nav, leather interior etc for less than that. Ideal 2nd car. Why would you settle for something with poverty spec?

We'd toyed with the idea of an ST220 as a 2nd car, and again, would hold out for one with Nav.

The thing I like is the BMW app (which is average) but lets me send maps to the car and the online service which allows me to phone the call centre and get them to put it in for me if I am driving.
Really? I guess this is only for the latest systems? My e91 isn't going to be able to do that?

It's not as good as the newer system like Housey has, but (if you pay for connected drive which isn't really worth it) the sat nav in my 2008 M5 can do similar. You can send it destinations from google maps.

There is rather a big difference between colours in nature than those colours on cars.

The colour of a car can and does affect the resale value, where "unusual" colours reduce the value and increase sale times. the only exceptions are launch colours on halo models, such as the Phoenix yellow on the M3 and the Orange on the Focus ST.

I'd get the M3 unless you really want the M5/M6. Aside from the M5/6 being €30 an hour more, i can imagine they wouldn't be as much fun around the stunning countryside surrounding Munich. And that bloody underground car park is difficult to maneuver in with a 1 series, let alone an M5!

Just get lost in the countryside. I set the sat nav for a random point in what looked like the country side around Munich. Then i just generally went in that direction and deviated from my route if i happened to be on a good road (of which there were MANY). Enjoy, i want to go back and do it again soon but in an M car now i'm 25.
I think I'll go with an M3. The money saved will pay for fuel :p

Although I'll be doing this on valentine's day (conincidence) so perhaps it should be spent on dinner with the gf :o

I once spent valentines day touring the midlands looking at a load of Focus ST's. Did not go down well, good day though

Shame my iPhone isn't up to much in this kind of light, just given the car a wax with OCW, looking good on this colour!
