New Golf Mk7

So a tiny bit bigger - as you tend to expect from newer models. Hardly a "panzer tank" though, its just a golf

Yeah, add another inch each way compared to the Mk4. It's not grown a lot really.

I still maintain the Golf is all the car most people would ever need. It's well built and a nice enough place to be. Should I ever enter the lottery and get a nice windfall the first thing thing on the list will be a new GTI.

from what I've read, it doesn't sound like the MK7 was aiming for much difference on the exterior, but instead more focused on the interior / performance.

Was speaking to someone at the weekend who was looking to get the new Audi A4, but after seeing this said he'd rather go for the golf :o!

I can't personally comment as I haven't loooked at it, but surely the A4 would be superior to the Golf?

The new Golf interior looks similar to the Passat and tbh its very uninspiring and the masses of tacky silver trim make it look like a vauxhall, very much doubt its better than the current A4.

/Dons flame suit.

It's all I'd need. I'm sure I'd buy a nice Porsche 911 (or insert your sportscar of choice) in time for thrashing round a track and bits of North Wales for fun, but for popping to work and the supermarket what's the point?

For popping to the supermarket I'd use the 911, it's a day to day sports car. It has 4 seats and you can easily get a weeks food shopping in the front boot.

What's the point of using a Golf when you can have any other car?

It's as bad as those fat couples you read about in the paper who win millions on the lottery, but buy themselves a caravan and a Focus because "that's all they've ever wanted". Boooooring.

Exactly, why bother playing the lottery - the whole point is massive stupendous life changing sums of money. If you just want a new golf, work a bit harder in your day job!

Yeah I guess, but why go in a Golf when you can go in something much more comfortable/fun :p

I'd forgotten quite how cliquey and blinkered Motors was. :D

I never stated a jackpot win. You are making assumptions.

As stated previously - it's all you need. It's easier to park and a lot less likely to get keyed by some jealous ***** than some uber Panzerwagon with massage seats.

Perhaps a better question is that for popping to the supermarket, whats the point in a £20,000 hatchback?

It's better than a minicab.

I don't even have anything against the Golf - it's a decent enough car - I just find the concept of 'its all you need just to pop to the supermarket' bizarre when used to justify spending more than £20k on a hatchback, thats all.
