hmm is it time!?

The only problem with that rig, if you start to pour money into it you are going to eventually, if not soon hit a dead end. Wasted investment due to outdated CPU socket? Didn't notice it was DDR3 so perhaps not :D

Does leaving a PSU on standby (it has its own power switch) prolong its life? As i never turn the power off at the wall. Just a random thought as everything would still be taking some power i guess?

Leave the switch on, saves wear.

Well 8GB in the system 12GB total, can't say i notice much difference

You won't I'd imagine, anything 4GB or above won't unless you do some serious photoshop work or run multiple instances.

Have you got your Q6600 overclocked yet? Makes a world of difference, the Mrs has my old Q6600 setup and it still holds it's own overclocked.

Saying that i'm noticing it in lotro just looked at performance tab and 5GB Ram is in use running it.

Not OC as of yet ill wait untill i get a decent cpu cooler and some new gel.

I've managed to pickup an Arctic 7 freezer pro (Heatsink) for £1 :D cleaned it n whatnot so will install tomorrow

HELP!

Well after hours of faffing I had to take the motherboard out to install this new heat sink. All fine connected all back up. And now I'm getting resets!
Was in the 90s when i turned on according to bios

I get as far as loading windows

Anyone?

I've gone back to stock again its fine idle , but playing game like Anno send it to a reset (overheat)

Just checked core-temp as soon as i booted again

Core:

0 104c
1 105c
2 107c
3 108c

I put a fair dolop of thermal paste :(

Possibly too much, or you may have just not seated it properly - try removing it, cleaning off the paste and trying again.

100 degrees plus is a problem with the heatsink not taking the heat away from the CPU - it can't be making proper contact. Is the fan on the heatsink running?

Alternatively, there may be a reason it was £1...

Maybe time to spend more than a £1 on a cooler :D

re-gone in to bios to check temps agian 85c cpu / chassis 35c (all default settings)

Cant seem to find anything about adjusting fan on cpu at all only chassis

Atm cpu temp:

107
109
111
113

Gah why did i bloody touch this..

Are the newer Heat-Sinks easy to install as the push pins are VERY annoying?
