New Golf Mk7

It looks like something KIA or Proton might have come up with 5-10 years ago. What an amazingly dull thing. That's a premium hatch these days, 20k+? Christ!

In terms of equipment its a step up from the Mk6, however it really is horrendously overpriced for what it is. And I owned a Mk6 for 2 years. It was the GT, which looked quite nice, but it was just... dull.

I test drove one on the weekend at a launch day at a local dealer, it was a 2.0TDI 150 SE.

Like the interior, still not sold on the exterior. Went well enough. Steering and pedals all over assisted leaving a detached feeling as expected. Quite a weird feeling after the way my 306 handles.

Actually I quite like it even though it isn't a lot dfferent. I do like the front of the mk6 but think the rear is a little weak on them. But the mk7 has the slightly more angular rear light cluster reminiscent of the mk4 and I like that.

VW are good at marketing, a bit like apple, basically bring out a facelift and make out that its a whole new model.

****'s

oh its different. its supposedly lost a load of weight and gained a load of cabin space and safety at the same time which is no easy thing

yea the looks havent changed much but you cant really single that out as a VW thing

Even the VW Group wouldn't say that - what about the Audi A3?

Granted they would not directly compare them, even on their comparison tool it seems, although they will let you compare the Golf with SEATs. I guess that is because VW considered more of a premium product to the SEAT.

I prefer this to the 6, considerably more angular and less rounded, gives it a slightly more modern vibe, much like the 6 versus the 5 IMO.

It's a Golf doing what the Golf does best, being an inoffensive, capable, well rounded car that appeals in one way or another to a large number of people. It's looks will improve with the GTI, much like the 5 and 6 did.

How's the job at VW going? :p

How can a car pretend to be something it isnt

It looks just like a relatively smart hatchback... OK the price is quite high, but still not sure I get your point

The VW Golf is attempting to be a premium vehicle. It's sold on the badge and has a price that apparently matches that badge.
A golf is pretending to be a "premium hatchback" when compared to others at much more sensible prices is nothing special.

Hopefully that lifts some of the confusion from what I felt wasn't that confusing a statement.
