Awesome Sim only offer from Virgin if anybody is interested

Just bought this for Mrs Space Monkey, bargain deal:

Unlimited calls to Virgin Mobile numbers
1200 minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited texts to Virgin Mobile numbers
1GB Mobile Web

Plus Unlimited BlackBerry Email & Messenger (as we are VM customers) all for £12 p/m :D

They sent me a flyer through the door promoting that SIM only deal. It is a bargain. If I want planning on upgrading I would jump on it. The best part about that deal is that it is only a 30 day rolling contract.

I think they share network with both T-mobile and orange.

Still considering changing to virgin mobile, just reduced my tesco one to £10 a month from £12.50 for 500/5000/1GB but the coverage can be a little iffy at the best of times plus tesco/o2 do something odd with their data and its causing problems for me on tvcatchup :(

Seems worse that the giff-gaff deal to me. £10 get's you more still.

I think if it a better connection with giff-gaff (with is a bit crap especially with 3G) then it would be more worthwhile.

I'm thinking of changing to Virgins £17 unlimited data/texts sim free tariff. I'm on three at the moment but am finding more and more places locally where I can't get reception. Virgin also offer tethering on this plan.

T-mobile/orange also isn't great in my area (no network is) but they seem to be better than three.

What's the most data some of you people on virgin have used in a month? Is it truly unlimited? To be honest I rarely use more than 1-1.5gb per month but if I'm paying for unlimited it would be nice to have it (in case my broadband line is down for example). My girlfriend has an 'unlimited data' contract with Tesco which actually means they'll charge you if you go over 1gb. Haha.

Wasnt aware that Tesco did an unlimited data bundle?? Most I can see is a 2gb package (They do however do iphone packages with unlimited bt wifi)

edit scratch that i can now see a 3gb one

I've looked at my girlfriends online bill. It says "Unlimited data - ***/1024mb used". It's stupid, haha.

She got hers almost 2 years ago so their 1gb bundle may have been advertised as unlimited back then.

It's better because giffgaff use the woeful o2 network.

And you get 1k more minutes. It depends on whether you need data or minutes as to which is best really.

Obviously if you can get it changed to what's posted in the post above then it's a lot better.

I need to do this, I have a virgin PAYG, but am planning on getting the Windows Lumia 620 at the end of the month.

I'm on the Virgin plan that gives 150 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data for £13 a month. The past few weeks I've used over 3gb of data and they haven't said anything, so their allowance is pretty high!

I just had a conversation with a rep on the site (pop up chat window) and she said that they dont allow tethering on the unlimited data plans, but they do on the Essential SIM packages with 1GB data.

I was hoping it was tethering on the unlimited data plan!

She's wrong.

There is nothing in the t&cs and if you look at their support form, their official line is.

You're allowed to tether on unlimited plans through us - however, we're unable to support the setup of this process other than giving our generic settings - that would be down to the individual to investigate.

ive never actually gone above my 500/5000/1gb limit with tesco but the fact that o2 is so poor with 3g ive just requested my pac code (again) so have about 3 weeks to decide if this is the best move, the thing is ive never actually gone above my limits and in reality havent had that many problems but have noticed a severe drop in signal compared to orange on both 2g and 3g

The T&C state this for pay go, she may have got mixed up...

"If your tariff includes unlimited data, then this is for mobile internet services and data consumption actually on your handset. It does not include using your handset as a modem to connect other devices such as laptops and tablets – also known as “Tethering”"

I'll phone check tomorrow as even on the forum there is a bit of confusion...

There is no allowance or FUP

Sorry but this absolutely isn't true. After seeing them so highly recommended on this forum recently, I grabbed a Virgin 'big data' tariff SIM this week after buying my GS3 LTE. I then duly topped up £10 for 'unlimited' data with tethering. After syncing my new GS3 LTE and my tablet (flashing ROMs, re-downloading apps, backups etc) I hit 10GB of downloads quite quickly (inside a few days).

Strangely, as soon as I hit the 10GB mark my speeds hit a perfect 0.3Mbps no matter where (or at what time, or on what server) I tested. I phoned customer services and the guy tried to tell me it was due to utilisation in the area for which they are performing tower updates this month, and "it will reset at the end of this month"...

So, I said, you're basically blagging that I've been capped/throttled for hitting 10GB inside a month and the throttle will reset when I top up next month?... He denied this at first so I pushed, and asked what upgrades were they undertaking, and did that mean I wouldn't slow down after grabbing 10GB + next month after the 'upgrade'?

He started stuttering and eventually said, look, you've hit our FUP of 10GB and your browsing speeds will reset at the end of your top-up month. If you stay under 10GB next month you won't slow down, but if you go over you'll slow to 0.3Mbps or less again for the rest of that month, too.

Unlimited my arse. :p I jumped to Three on a pay-monthly SIM today (One Plan, my second contract with them) and am now downloading and surfing at 22 to 25Mbps no problems. :)

It's a shame because T-Mobile's network actually seems quite decent. I get more signal than I do on Three (marginally) and in more places. But Virgin? No thanks. Maybe it's worth me jumping to the full monty on pay monthly, but I'll probably just stick with Three now.

Edit: I'm not the only one it seems.
I understand why people are using excessive amounts, because I'm one of those people... I'm in the middle of buying a house right now which means no broadband and I must rely on a 3G signal.

I'm currently using a Virgin Media 30 day rolling contract, but I'm now being throttled. Thankfully as it's a 30 day contract I'm going to cancel and try out 3, hopefully no throttling
