HMV Finally closing down for good?

No, Eletronics Boutique took over GAME ages ago and subsequently rebranded the entire operation to GAME because the EB name was used under license from EB in the US.

I stand corrected!

Yeah, perhaps.

Are we supposed to hate the bosses? Is that the next phase after shouting adapt or die?

Well yeah really as they're the ones supposedly steering the ship but rather be a responsible and diligent captain they've behaved more like Francesco Schettino.

Ahh ok. I'm sure they all sat back and didn't try to do anything to save these jobs. Because it is that simple. (!)

Yes because the 'top bosses' haven't worked for years to get where they are? You don't just walk into a director or operational manager role. It takes years of hard graft to work your way up.

Not always no. From experience a lot of the time it's because they knew the right people or were prepared to play the 'corporate game' (i.e. staying past your finish time even if you have nothing to do because it looks good etc, etc).

But regardless, just because you've worked hard to get to where you are doesn't mean you can then bank that like some kind of protected no claims bonus and proceed to screw up and be expecting not to drop down a few pegs.

As has been stated, whilst nothing would have guaranteed HMV's business, doing nothing in the face of overwhelming change to the market is just inept.

So what in your opinion should the bosses have done?

Also, why shouldn't they walk into another six figure paying job if they are offered it (which they will be)?

Bought out Amazon as soon as it was clear their model was clearly the future at which point HMV were much bigger and richer than them.

If that wasn't possible a rival website should have been started, that offered products at similar prices, unlike what they did which was create a site selling CDs for marginally less than they were in store any way.

Secondly, realised the potential success of iTunes and worked with Apple to provide discounted purchases in store (i.e you get a top card for iTunes worth £12 and you only pay £10 for it in store). Alternatively, offered their own MP3 download service.

Also, why shouldn't they walk into another six figure paying job if they are offered it (which they will be)?

Because it was their mismanagement that caused HMV to fail.

There seems to be significant interest from numerous companies.

I hope so and I hope it remains in some kind of format. I don't know about everybody else but it can be really boring shopping on the internet. I sometimes prefer the social aspect. Trying out things needs to be done in person also.

HMV need to come down to Oz and take a look at how JB hifi do business. Incredibly successful and stays competitive to amazon US's prices.

Seems crazy that if HMV dissapear the UK won't have a dedicated movies/music chain stores where oy can't walk in and browse

I really hoped HMV do survived. I like their 5 for £30 deals for example.

If anything, it is somewhere to kill 20 mins when I go to town.

OMG!!! I bloody knew I should have took the bet and purchased some! I don't beleive it!

I will never ever listen to forum members again! BOOM!

^^ OMG look how many are been sold! On another note if the administrators say 'yes' they can now be accepted someone could be quids in here! Might be worth a chance buying a few cos you could easy make a 1000% profit and more if you buy right!

Do you want to take a chance??????

Q. Will gift vouchers be accepted?

HMV has already announced gift cards and vouchers will not be accepted.

So for now, any cards or vouchers you have are invalid, though Deloitte could decide to accept them when it is appointed — though there are no indications either way.

Deloitte was appointed administrator for Comet and initially stopped accepting gift vouchers, but later changed its mind.
