So I have what it is probably the easiest question ever, but I'm struggling to find what I need.

Bascailly I have all my data on an internal HDD and will at some point need to transfer all the information on it over to a laptop (just files, not operating system). Now, the hard drive isn't connected to a computer and therefore has no power source etc.

What the best way to get the data over? I've read that you should be able to buy a SATA -> USB adaptor cable but can't find one. I don't want to have to buy an external caddy.

There's load up for auction for sub £10 or so.

3.5" drive? If so, you might need to get one with an external power supply, as USB 2.0 will only do 500 milliamps.

You don't have a desktop pc at all? Quickest way is to remove and plug in the laptop hdd into the desktop pc and swap what you need

If that's not an option then a Usb hdd dock is the next best imo

Nope, I've sold/in the process of selling it! So I just have the hard drive left with all my data on.

Edit; just seen a HDD dock online for about a tenner, looks like it'd fit the bill so cheers.
