Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Yeah, with two monitors, it would be good to be able to have a desktop on one with a metro on the other. With three, I've kinda gone off that idea.

Metro could, with the right apps of course, be very cool on a second touch-screen monitor. If you could keep it up and still use the classic desktop.

Windows 8 *vomit*. I'm using it on my laptop, I will continue to use it but I just can't get the hang of it doesn't feel natural.. keeping W7 on my desktop

I am sort of doing that now. I have a Metro app on on screen and desktop on the other. Its not a touch-screen but it easily could be, so it seems you could have want you want with Windows 8. The only thing lacking is apps for Metro

Is there a way to permanenetly enable the Metro interface on a second screen ?

Id love to have all my feeds on the second monitor but as soon as i click on my primary desktop using the classic interface the metro interface disappears ;/

Apps will come in time, it is a brand new format basically. But basically the same on desktop, tablet and phone so there is a real incentive to building them.

It is screens that are bugging me. I want a 23" 1920x1080 IPS with multitouch! For under £300, cos I am a cheap git.

I'm not so sure how the apps will develop. The thing is that there is such a range of apps for Android, Tablets and Phones, that it is going to be hard to get a market going as I don't think Windows phones are going to make very much of a market share for a long time. Then again, if one has a desktop, the desktop applications are better as they can be arranged on the desktop to suit.

As for a touch screen monitor - not my idea of fun. Judging by what a mess my phone screen gets, I hate the idea of constantly cleaning a 24" monitor. I will be remaining without touch but quite fancy the 27" DGM that OCUK sell which comes in at around £300.

Does the same to me, shame all the feeds are interesting to watch sometimes. It could be a vital step for some people between pc and tv

Agreed silversurfer.

It would be handy to be in game or watching a film on one screen, whilst having all my news/weather/twitter feeds using the metro interface on the other, but noooo.

Hell, it would even be pretty neat just whilst just browsing on classic interface on screen 1 whilst having the above mentioned on screen 2.

Hopefully MCsoft are aware of this cause at the moment the metro interface is more or less useless..(for me)

Sorry for the stupid question. I'm about to bite the bullet and buy the Win 8 Oem version for £79.99. I want a copy that I can reinstall with no issues when I change components AND I want to keep my Win 7 license to go on another PC so an upgrade edition wouldn't make that possible.

If I buy a full OEM edition can I still install it as an upgrade rather than having to reinstall and start fresh?

Had a new Samsung laptop delivered on Thursday, with W8 installed. I tried it for an hour and gave up - it is ******* ****. I hate it.

What the **** were MS thinking releasing this horrible O/S? Not intuitive in any way. No logical and straight forward way I could see to access Control Panel. No Start Button? WTF? Seriously?

Hate it.

It's gone and W7 Pro replaced it.

Well, you are the loser, George! There's loads of improvements in the OS but one just has to adapt to new ways of working - just like when Windows XP replaced Program Manager with a nasty start button! Plenty of people then said program manager was much easier to use.

All one has to do is to organise short-cuts for important programs on the bottom bar, arrange the 'Metro' screen to suit the things one does and it is there - 2 clicks to any program. That's faster than the start button!

I don't feel like I've lost anything Prescott. I tried it and I don't like it. I've used every MS O/S since DOS, I'm not some clueless teenage n00b ;)

I just think it's insane to remove the Start Button. If they had left the desktop alone and just had Metro, then I'd simply have disabled Metro and just used the Desktop and I wouldn't be moaning.

I'm happy for you that you like it, but it isn't for me.

So that Start Button actually is a decider for you? Is that Start Button really that much of a big deal? Am i the only person who used it to turn off my PC and nothing more? :p

Yes, because it gives access to so many 'under the hood' components that I use extensively, especially when setting up a new PC. I couldn't work out how to get to Control Panel for love or money. Yes, I could have Googled it, but why should I? If it's not intuitive then it's crap IMHO.

Doesn't work for me. Has corrupted loads of files, presuming due to an incompatibility of the JMB Micron sata driver and windows 8 when using all sata ports on a Gigabyte UD5.

Currently trying to save some files and now back to windows 7 which is working without a hitch on the same setup.

basically you want look / feel of windows to stay in the 90's?
and please reply saying your a old man and it's difficult to adopt things, that is crap

I've said this before in another thread and I will say it again. im 31 and been on computers from age of about 6. from dos to all windows versions

i guess due to me being disabled. i've leant to adopt new things and make the best out of things. i love trying new things and leaning, even if it's difficult..

in life it's all about leaning, if everything was easy/simple nobody would lean anything in life

just because someone is in their 60's-80's doesn't mean their ability to lean stops. it all comes down to if you can be bothered to lean or not. simple as that tbh.

also MS has not blocked people customizsing windows with 3rd party software/programs. same has previous OS's. if you don't like the look / feel of win 8 simply customize it to the way you want.
