Hey guys,

This isn't a problem enabling AHCI, but more of an annoyance afterwards.

I got an SSD recently so currently in my computer is my SSD and another HDD, both running in AHCI mode.

My only gripe is when I boot up the computer it gets to a screen called AHCI Bios. It says "Checking AHCI Drive init..." For a couple of seconds then my SSD, HDD and Optical drive are listed below. It then reboots and boots into windows from my SSD.

Its not a huge problem i suppose but it does take a fair amount of time off the boot. I've set the SSD as the first boot device and disabled the others but that hasn't changed anything.

Any Ideas?

Thanks.

The price you pay for AHCI.

My system runs 40-45 seconds before it even thinks about starting windows, with AHCI and RAID enabled.

Some newer bioses have quick boot options, where they store all the drive info. When they boot they assume the devices are still there and go straight to boot. I believe it's an option limited to the newer UEFI bioses.

I'm sure someone will pop in and explain it all fully.

you sure you have AHCI and not RAID selected?

If you RAID the bios has to boot the RAID drivers first and detect the RAID array and then it restarts.

Your really unlucky as well as the newer ASRock boards with windows 8 have ultra fast boot which boots to desktop in under 5 seconds.

Make sure you have the latest mobo bios as well

I still have the same bios as stock. So its probably a good idea to update it. Cheers.

I definitely have ahci selected. It boots and says ahci bios ver 00.12343 or something similar.

I do have a program called asrock instaboot, but it doesnt seem to work too great. Ill update the bios and give everything a shot. Thanks.

Quick Example of the boot times with Asrock Instant boot.

Only problem is it shuts down twice and I can't shut off the PSU.

that's really fast.

I just had EVGA email me the UEFI bios for my gtx 670 so tried it but keeps booting to UEFI shell which is the bios.

In boot options Its the only option I get.

Apparantly I had to install the OS as GPT and not MBR (default) for ultra fast to work.

No ultra fast for me then CBA to re-install windows again. Back to fast.

im going to disable it though. The cons of having it boot twice is not worth the benefit of a quick boot.
