Lifetime spend on buying cars

I will try to remember all the cars I have had with a rough estimate on purchase/sale price:

1. 2000 to 2001: Ford Orion 1.4 £250.00 purchase, scrapped - loss of £250.00
2. 2001 to 2002: Ford Orion 1.6i £500.00 purchase, scrapped - loss of £500.00
3. 2002 to 2003: Ford Escort 1.6 £500.00 purchase, scrapped - loss of £500.00
4. 2003 to 2003: Citroen Saxo VTR £5000.00 purchase, written off for £4000.00 - loss of £1000.00
5. 2003 to 2005: Rover 25 2.0D purchase £4000.00, sold for £2000.00 - loss of £2000.00
6. 2005 to present: Honda Civic Type R purchase £11000.00, worth about £2500 - loss of £8500.00

So 13 or so years, 6 cars costing about £13,000. What a waste of dough, oh well.

I'm not going to count exactly but in the last 10 years it would have to be well north of $1m, possibly closer to $2m. It has been worth every penny though :D

Mondeo mk2 2.0 650 scrapped for 150 loss £500

Mondeo mk2 2.5l ghia x bought for 1650 sold for 1450 loss £200

E46 330i sport bought for £7400 sold for £2800 loss £4600

My current car if this sale goes through will be a £2k loss. So in 7 years about 7k, grand a year isn't too bad in depreciation, half of that on an e46. Or about 30k in total

You only ever post to win threads these days :p

XR2 ~ £600 - SOLD for a similar amount
306 1.6 ~ £800 - SOLD for about £200
306 S16 ~ £800 - SOLD for a similar amount
306 GTI ~ £1400 - CRASHED, SCRAPPED & SOLD for £350
Golf VR6 ~ £1000 - SOLD for about £500
Octavia VRS ~ £4500 - CURRENT worth around £1K.

Plus some other dull cars I've forgotten about so it's probably around a £6,000 loss over 11 years. I still have the VRS now. Best car I have ever bought, I can't believe I've had it around 6 years now.

13 years driving, car costs....

Mk II Golf auto :( - Free from a relative, can't remember what killed it
Ford Sierra 1.6 - £800 - written off while parked by unknown driver :( Had a (probably brief) second life as a banger racer
Nissan Primera 1.6 - Free from a different relative, suspension rusted through at 189k. Sold for scrap value
Honda Prelude 2.2VTI :) - £1200

So, £2k and some freebies.

Woah - didn't realise how much people have spent. I suppose it doesn't take into consideration salary/return.

2006 - £1400 Y Reg 1.4 Clio (Sold it for £1500 a year later)
2007 - £700 P Reg 1.4 Clio (Sold it for £1000 1 year later)
2008 - £2100 Y Reg JTD Punto (still own it)

In our defence the new Focus will be giving us 10+ years of very cheap motoring.
Yes we could have a bought an older better car for less but we wanted to pay depreciation rather than maintenance.

Also, used F20 M-Sports and Focus Eco Boosts were not available at the time.

not too bad if that 50k bought you a 1M and a Focus RS. How have you managed to spend that much on a 118 and a focus? or am I missing something???
