BMW F10 530d M-Sport: On-going Review!!

Unless fitting the non run flats caused the issue.
I think they are going to be hard pushed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that causal link.

What warranty claim can you imagine being refused? Normal tyres are quite possibly easier than run flats on absolutely every component on the car!

Pretty much. There is contractual small print and there is reality and your point is my point. I have BMW's statement I am clear on their terms and also clear on the reality of customer retention based on I think my 12th BMW and a good relationship with my local dealer. Same with Porsche and my GT3, Gibbo is seeing the same. Be open and fair with people and don't take the pee and they will do the same. I say again, running non run flats will have no impact on any warranty in the real world, it doesn't stand scrutinery and any sensible dealer will sort their customer out. Totally as a coincidence I was meeting with some senior people at BMW UK yesterday so I am very clear on the importance of their brand and silly decisions that can damage it, like peeing off a loyal customer for no valid or defensible reason.

Completely agree!

Interestingly I'd like to see BMW take something similar to the Lexus approach on customer centricity - I know quite a few people who, while not 'in' to cars, still like a premium vehicle, and have strayed from BMW to Lexus because they felt unappreciated and uncared for. I think it's very dealer-specific, as my local dealer has been really quite fantastic over the 7 years I've used them (they still remember me as the guy who had the 'full' Arizona Sun 3 Series). They've great staff retention so I've had the same individuals looking after me this whole time. Friends of mine, however, have had some pretty awful experiences at other dealers.

The head of service has been at my dealer for 23 years and came over to chat on Friday. I'd not seen him for 5 years but remembered me straight away. He was pushing me to let him quote me for 4 nice new non run flats......not close but no issues in his book either.

I tell you why i ask ..

My step father has a 335d and recently required some new tyres. I suggested moving away from the run flats for the very reasons mentioned in this thread however he came back saying the local BMW dealer said it would invalidate his warranty.

I agree its unlikely to ever be raised in the event of a warranty claim however i wonder what the official line is ...

They are pulling his plonker and I suggest he moves to a new dealer. Ignorance is a justifiable argument either in my book, it sounds like a dealer trying to shift stock, did they offer to do them for him? He should speak to BMW customer services who have a statement I believe.

So today, finally I've ditched the run flats for Michelin Pilot Super Sports all round. First impressions......

Fox, you won't like this but the F10 suspension damping is ****. Even with the new tyres on, which of course need running in and will need some tweaking of pressures I feel, the car is still terribly damped. The bumps are smoother now, but they are still much more prevalent than they should be in a car like this. In terms of ride I am still disappointed with it but I will hold final judgement until I've put some miles on them.

One thing that has changed is road noise, the new tyres are presently noisier than the previous run flats. Not the revolution in ride I was hoping for to be brutally honest, but I shall give them time and review when they got a few hundred miles on them.

Flawed car this, as the magazines say, don't touch one without active ride as if you are like me it will start to annoy you.
