Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Well you clearly do, otherwise you wouldn't keep rolling out this "refuse to adapt" rhetoric.

Newsflash - not liking something doesn't mean you're "refusing to adapt" to it. It just means you don't like it.

Tripe. Nowhere did i say people need to accept anything if they don't like it. Quite were you got this idea that i keep saying that from, I have no idea. I'm puzzled, I don't understand why people aren't grasping this - that wasn't me complaining about people who dont like the start menu, it was me complaining about the same boring arguments day after day in these threads. It's been going on for for over a year now. If you don't like it then that's really just peachy - don't use it then.

Either buy in to it or don't but please calm down the diatribe, it's nonsense.

!= 'You must adapt'.

I don't see why this forum can't just have both Windows 7 and Windows 8 users who co-exist without bickering.

Well at least you've got that right. I'm sure there's a windows 7 thread around here somewhere, perhaps posting in there instead would be a good start?

edit: found this from July last year

Why do all the people that are desperate for Metro to succeed all come up with that same line?
why are people so desperate for it to fail is my question. Metro has virtually zero use on my windows 8 pc, and shock horror I get on just fine. The lengths people will go to trash windows 8 on the metro interface and metro interface alone is crazy, you're all too quick to dismiss the improvements made to the desktop environment and refuse to see the bigger picture. windows 8 is an improvement is just about every area over 7. If that isn't enough to warrant a purchase then that's fine, but you cannot expect anybody to take you seriously when your only argument against buying win8 is that it has a tacked on metro interface that you do not have to use other than when you log on (i dont mean you personally, pigeon)

My opinion hasn't changed at all, except to say that, when the offer period ends, I believe the recently announced price will be such that it wont be worth the upgrade to just about anybody.

I should also add that I've never told people to get over it and accept it.

Tute! angry? You seem to be getting an awful lot wrong and this is not adding anything of use to this thread. If you want to argue some more, please feel free to email me (trust) but lets just keep it out of this thread.

Back on topic, I've had an issue the last few days and i could use some advice. When I'm gaming (and only gaming, it would seem) every now and then I get the device disconnected sound and the screen goes blank for a second. Highly annoying:p I can't pinpoint what it is though. I've tried to monitor my USB devices and they dont seem to disconnect at the time. I've tried to check the Event viewer as well, but i cant see anything that relates to it.

Does anybody have any ideas or any tips to narrow this down?

Windows 8 is great. Not only did it only cost £25 for a fully licensed version, (and by the way my windows 7 was a pirate version but they still let me have it even with a pirate serial key for £25 - Thanks Microsoft) but it is faster and more efficient than windows 7. Games also run faster and minimum and average fps are seeing gains of a few fps. Not a huge difference but it all helps.

Metro is a pain and not ideal yes, but all it takes is one click to get rid of all that and turn windows 8 into a windows 7 style look, just like i have it here.

For anyone who doesn't know this, all you need is start8. http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

One click is all it takes, its as easy as urinating when you really need to pee. You can trial it for 30 days and after that (presuming you don't pirate it) it costs, wait for it, £2.50. If people are boycotting windows 8 because of the start menu then more fool them.

Do you think Microsoft have missed a trick with their full price for windows 8?

That's in your head fella... It is a start menu, and it should have your favourite program shortcuts on it, why do you need to go to desktop to open a program?

I know it's a start menu (very useful one too, especially live tiles) and it does have my organised items in there. The only thing on the desktop is the Recycle Bin. Who said anything about going to the desktop to launch programs? I was implying that as an example. You see the curtain before the show. Only the curtain has a lot of information on it. :D

Because I'm being straight and to the point. I don't believe in mincing words so if you are talking tripe, I will say so:)

That's the end of it as far as I'm concerned.

I think there's more to it, but you're right, this isn't really the thread for it.

I do feel its a very minor issue, like I stated takes less then a second to swap between Metro and Desktop, also having the option to customize both Metro and Desktop is a bonus.

Win9 will build on Metro with regards to refinement and customization.

End of the day we can all agree no OS is perfect and that goes for Win7,Linux or any OS you can care to mention.

Btw I finally moved the only icon(Recycle Bin) from desktop to taskbar on Win8(where the old Start button is on Win7) took me ages to get around to it lol...

Funny, I might be able to be of assistance - what's your graphics card and how is it connected to your monitor? (DP/DVI/HDMI etc)

I wasn't complaining though. :s

Microsoft should have giving you this option built in for the first build it would have been the way to go, as surely they would have heard peoples fews about not having a start menu would have made the transition a lot easier.

As for Start8, so some one with a brain is making afew pounds out of people like you, l would have waited to see what Microsoft do in the long run.

I think they are trying to kill off the old Start menu, Win9 will not be getting it back either according to my link in previous posts a few up,as I keep saying you don't really need it.

I can see having something from Win95 days like the Start menu makes it hard to adjust to the new way for some people, however did not take me long, only 2 weeks at most.

Can I just ask - why do you think this is? I mean i'm sure I read that Microsoft had to actually spend time coding the Start Menu out of their OS, why would they do this when they can just leave it in and please people on both sides of the fence?
