Need to build my nephew a cheap computer for surfing

tower only .. have a intel 6600quad and a wavemaster and a cd drive.. and 4gb 1gb sticks of geil ddr2 ram

better to use these or just sell these and buy some thing better

needs to be a cheap as possible as i'm skint.. thanks

Get a cheap mobo and case, a branded low wattage psu, whatever drive size is required and your done? DDR2 boards are second hasnd only, so you would need to get whatever ddr3 you like.

Either of these:

This psu if buying now, otherwise there are other brands that are currently out of stock slightly cheaper.

HDD can be whatever you want, i prefer samsung, but others will say WS or Seagate or whatever - its all down to preference and personal past history normally.

Edit: This route would probably end up costing you around £150 but you can probably get something a lot nicer/smaller going to all new tech, and spending maybe £100 more though.

Sorry, should have read your opening post a bit more closely.

If you have access to the MM, I would look in there or open a wanted thread.
Just sold a 775 board a few weeks ago.

Keep in mind that the ram he has is DDR2, so it means second hand board, or buying new ram.

OP, are you happy with second hand components or only want new stuff?

!!!! Ram is so cheap nowadays lol. I was still expecting it to be at least £30 for any amount of branded stuff.
I remember paying £400 for 8gb of DDR3 1600 on release, and even my current set of 12gb cost like £150.

Dont care really as i say its for a nephew that tends to break everything hence the budget

bought him a £400 laptop last year which he broke before the year was out so now its a cheap tower until he learns some respect for his stuff..

get in the members market and get any ddr2 socket 775 mobo you can then. can probably also source the psu, but may as well get the case i linked above
