Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Some of the guys I work with call my shakes "magic potions" and have the same attitude as you point out. Proper 'roid monster me!

I don't have this problem, i have a work colleague who is fascinated and complimentary about the supplements i take (Protein powder, multi-vit, fish oil, instant oats) and often pretends to tense her arms and ask how my training is going etc.

FYI, she's marrying someone this year before you say "tap that".

love all the doctors coming out the woodwork on ocuk thinking they know better than the toxological experts :rolleyes:

Considering the risk of sudden death from cardiac causes can be 17 times greater (assuming they're healthy and exercise regularly) when people undergo vigorous exercise, add to that the heat and resulting fluid loss and then the supplement she was taking though it's easy to say she didn't exactly know the risk of it there are other factors that could have attributed to her death.

No one else pick up on this part?

"Claire was passionately against the use of drugs and would never, ever, have taken anything that would have caused her harm, or even worse, risk her life."

Well, why did she buy Jack3D? Did she not read about it before buying it? Did she not look what was in it? I mean let's face it, you can't pick Jack3D up from the supermarket.....

Mmmm... it's interesting (aside from being really sad that somebody died), because I would NEVER take anything that I wasn't perfectly sure from where it had come and what it had in it.

As MoNkeE points out, Jack3D is pretty specific as a supplement and not exactly something available from supermarkets, and would have been available as a result of somebody around her buying and using it.

So she either took it knowingly ignoring the risks associated with DMAA, took it ignorant of them, or took it without quesitoning the provider (i.e. "what is this stuff I'm putting in my water bottle?").

It's truly horrible that somebody died like this, but if nothing else, stories like this, like the chap on here taking DNP, the others taking too much creatine, the other taking melatonin over a long term... if nothing else: think about what supplements you take and why you take them. Research them and take them in the knowledge that you've done all you can reasonably do to manage your risk.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure it has the usual warnings on the tub regarding existing heart problems consult GP etc etc.

Indeed, makes me think she had no idea what she was buying or why she was buying it. Probably just overheard something in the gym, used it for 'x' amount of weeks prior to the marathon and then just thought to put in a load before the event because it would give her that extra boost or what have you. If she just used it on the day of the marathon then I'd think that was even more silly.

Such a shame she died, id like to read the report. I used to love Jack3d, never used it for endurance/cardio tho

Bought some Jack3d Micro yesterday as it goes, thought id give it a try as Craze didnt really do much for me

The DMAA in Jack3d used to get me buzzing off my ***s, especially when I took two scoops. And I bet I'm a lot bigger than she was :\

i think its fairly simple really.. she didn't know what she was using she used too much and her heart was already on the line..

basically it could happen with anything :) but just to get the hype down they had to ban it.

Craze doesnt have DMAA in does it? doesnt that use a alternative? Ill look it up when im home :D

No, But you should have checked before necking it, shouldn't you? ;) :D

It has some caffeine in it and some other ingredients of an unproven nature (i.e. evidence saying "does nothing"), but that's it.

Colloquially, a lot of people on here report more energy/foxus from it, but...

Edit: @Skillmister: BOREBOREBOREBOREBOREBOREBORESHOUT!!!

I can imagine mate, I really can.

Honestly, I think the banning of DMAA is a good thing. It does however make pre-WO supps largely useless now imo :p

Just find your local friendly dealer, cheeky gram of speed should do you for a few workouts ;)

I'm kidding before anyone cries about me advocating drug use, but lets face it it's just the proper version of DMAA :p

I've been taking taurine, beta alanine, creatine, leucine and MCT oil before training and had some good results.
