Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

No what im talking about is a youtube running with MSI afterburner running with volume selectable WHILST im reading a browser in another part of the screen..

but that's why there's a desktop, there will be always some sort of desktop in future windows. metro isn't a OS, it's a up to date start menu or "like" a dashboard

The Running Man,you might mistake this thread as a two way conversation regarding Windows 8 but it isn't! :p The cake is a lie.

So, if they just made desktop Icons bigger and prettier, you'd be happy?

Actually for gareth170 it actually make more sense when I come to think of it(I don't mean this is any bad way TBH),than a bunch of tiny icons grouped together.

However,I still don't understand why all the people who love Win8 have to hate on all those who don't say OMFG is DA BEST OS EVAR! That hate extends to even people having small criticisms of the UI,and sometimes it does border on fanboism at times.

Its like all the stupid Android vs iOS UI wars people seem to like having.

If that is the case we would only have one UI for all personal computers, but we don't. In the end it is about people finding what suits them the best IMHO.

Nothing at all stopping you from doing that. I currently have Skype (app pinned to the side but the desktop version works fine too), Outlook, chrome and word all opened at the same time!

You would do that the same as you would on previous windows, what's the importance of having apps work in a way they haven't been designed to, when you have alternatives that will do what you want other than to try to create an argument where there really isn't one.

Devils advocate if you had that many games, then the tiles in metro become smaller anyway, thus negating that completely.

For touch yes,

for a mouse when I can scroll through a start menu, I find it just pointless. and how many times do I misclick and miss because its smaller than a tile? mm about 1 in 1000...so hardly even worth discussing.

I dunno, I used Win+X editor to add power shortcuts to the advanced menu, and I immediately clicked on Hibernate instead of Sleep by mistake.

I prefer the new Start over the old one and its tiny file trees.

well I've installed over 170 games/programs and the titles didn't get smaller..

but that's you. not everybody else.

a os isn't made just for how you want/like it

LOL at the discussion about making the actual desktop like an active dashboard. I miss the days of Active desktop on windows 98 and having animated gifs running on my desktop background

Hi guys,
Just a quick question really, my system is due a fresh install, got my new 7970 coming tomorrow and got me thinking that maybe i should try windows 8.
Plan is to try the trial version first and see how i get on with it.
Is there anything major i should know before downloading the trial?
Appreciate any advice/opinions.

who's saying that?

Once I saw "LOL" I was quite surprised to see the OcUK Staff part.

If one were a child/teenager, I could understand. Though you're as bad as Sky News at times, sensationalising something that wasn't there.

You sense hate out of calm discussions? and fanboy agendas out of logic?

You mean just like AMD vs Intel, AMD vs NVIDIA, Apple vs Microsoft, OS X vs Windows, Sony vs Microsoft and Playstation vs Xbox? one time it used to be no religion or politics. Now it's all that.

You will hate it for the first few hours I guarantee it.

After that, once you figure it out, you'll probably grow to like it.

It's utter gash if you don't use your pc like a tablet and actually want to work on it.

Get Win 7 pro, the only thing Win 8 brings is faster boot times, otherwise it's poor.
