seen the first 3 episodes of each and a bit meh at the min, however i keep hearing good things about both, at present there does not seem to be much of a plot with either and seem like quite individual episodes, i prefer more of a season long story...

so do these take off and am i gonna get hooked?

also any other good shows that started in 2013 ?

I'd say that Blue Bloods isn't worth sticking with, but Justified is. It has one of the best antagonists on TV right now.

With Justified you have to get through the first season which is a bit hit and miss.

The second season is simply brilliant, the third isn't up to the standards of the 2nd but that would be very hard to achieve. The third season is very good though

Justified is great but the first season is a bit meh. Blue bloods gets better, its entertaining certainly but its not must watch stuff. Id still stick with it though as its a very good show.

The trouble with Blue Bloods is it's the CSI "everything it back to normal and happy at the end of each episode" style of show, I stuck with it for 1 and a half seasons hoping for something better, it's very stagnant.

Justified however is very good, S1 is a little hit and miss, as are most shows when you go back to them and watch them in a short time, S2 is phenomenal.

Blue Bloods is a run of the mill police procedural, nothing to write home about and there's no long story thread to the whole season so missing a few weeks won't effect your viewing.

Justified is 110% amazing, the first season spends a lot of time building up the character backgrounds and history meaning the story doesn't always come through the best but it is worth sticking with. Essential viewing.

I like Blue Bloods - I wouldn't call it compelling viewing (not like Breaking Bad or Boardwalk Empire, yes of course very different kind of shows).

With out Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck it would be a bit dull I have to admit, but I certainly would say the 2nd series it does get better. The 'Blue Templar' storyline fizzles out in series 1 (may be back later) so there isn't really much of a theme running through apart from Jamie's involvement in an undercover mission that again seemed to fizzle out (no spoilers there).

I think Blue Bloods is one of the most shockingly bad tv programs to ever be aired. It's genuinely cringe-worthy and I can't get why it's popular. They are all paragons of virtue: one of them went to Harvard and could have been a top lawyer but decided to join the police (how noble), another is a former police commissioner and his son is the current commissioner (as if that ever happens), then there is the other son who is one of the best detectives in the NYPD and just so happens to get all the main cases regardless of where they take place in the city, then there's the daughter who is a DA.

No family in the world is as perfect as they are, I'd like the show if there was a bit of darkness, maybe a bad apple or two in the family for example, but they are all just too perfect and it is nauseating to watch. As if to ram this down your throat, they then sit down in nearly every episode for Sunday lunch (why does every episode seem to take place on a Sunday?!) and discuss the moral issue that that episode is trying to peddle. That lunch always ends in an argument where one person storms off and has to be talked to by the dad or grandad.

It's the modern equivalent of diagnosis murder, a crock of **** that somehow proves popular. Anybody who thinks this is good should first get their head examined and then start watching The Wire. It ***** all over this show. /rant

Justified gets very good in the 2nd season, we're on to the 3rd now which has had a couple of decent episodes but seems to have lulled(?) again, worth sticking with for season 2 though.

Justified is superb, I wasn't really a fan of Timothy Olyphant in the past but he's great in this.

I've watched about half of the first season of Blue Bloods so far, it's pretty good but as someone said above, it's not particularly compelling. If my Sky box deleted the rest of the episodes I've got on there, I wouldn't be particularly upset.

Stupid little details that they've got wrong annoy me too, like NPYD cars having blue and red lights on the front, when they should only have blue. If some guy in Scotland knows that, you'd have hoped that the people being paid to ensure accuracy would too.

Quite often they get things wrong on purpose, so that the prop can't be used to impersonate a police officer, some shows have the uniform with the badge on the wrong side, others have the badge with the numbers and letters in the wrong place, etc.

Aye, it's like the Bill was the only UK film or TV show (certainly TV show) from memory to be allowed proper replica MET police uniforms and full equipment.

When it was axed the MET bought all the uniforms to stop them going into private hands.
I was slightly surprised the production company didn't give them to the police, and that the Police hadn't made it a condition of them being allowed to use them, that they would be given to the MET or destroyed if the series ended or they were no longer needed.

Justified is very good, we've really enjoyed what we've seen so far (not seen the latest season yet).

The only good thing about Blue Bloods is when Magnum is stood outside my office filming a scene. Otherwise I've never watched the show :D

Hmm I thought Justified started well but became dull and formulaic well before the end of season 1, I watched the first episode of season 2 after people said it was good but didn't find it in any way compelling.
