Anyone care to share experiences of cycling with a rucksack? Two options tomorrow: 30 miles early morning with a full backpack or later cycle without. I favour the early ride with a pack, it has a good waist strap too, but I'm wondering if it'll destabilise me and mess with my centre of mavity.

I dont find any problems in terms of balance/weight/etc, but i hate cycling far with a backpack because i get really sweaty under it (even a proper mesh-backed one with proper big vent channels doesnt help much)

I've been commuting 30 miles for a while, but since xmas I've been using a Deuter backpack for my clothes/lunch etc.

Had no problems at all, it weighs surprisingly little when full (you don't really notice the weight), I do leave my shoes at work though to save space.

I must admit it'll get a bit sweaty in Summer....but I'm having no regrets so far.

I used to always cycle with a backpack - very sweaty :p

Now I live in a hot climate, I sweat buckets either way so doesn't make much difference anymore :D

I purposefully cycle with a heavy backpack (around 7kg) just to make my commute more of a work out, large towel, change of clothes, deodourant, aftershave, hair gel, wallet, keys, ready to drink protein shake and a 1.5 litre bottle of water daily.

Yes it does get sweaty in the summer but I shower when I arrive at work so it's not an issue.

first ride out in a distressingly long time. Quite short, not very fast. Would've been longer but i decided to turn for home after fixing my puncture. Flat bits are ok, it seems to be the hills that are killing me.

Ordered, thanks.

Ordered some myself too, thanks for that.

It's one of those things I keep forgetting, I'll hear chain slap when I'm out and think "I must order something to stop that damaging the frame" but by the time I'm home I've completely forgotten about it.

no worries :)

Decent 37 mile loop for me this morning, wrapped up with two pairs of gloves and four pairs of socks :o . Demoralizing and bitter head wind all the way up until about the 20 mile point, then I was literally flying with a tailwind all the way home :D set a couple of personal records too.

I'm on the second base phase of my Ironman training now, and have never been fitter in my life. Its a good feeling  :o

I only did 17 miles this morning, as I had to get home early, but the others got a bit further, though their route was cut short in parts due to all the ice where the water runs off some of the fields! Rubbish.

Finally some decent weather. Went out for pretty much first ride of the year today . Wasn't helped by the fact I over indulged yesterday and felt like a sloth today.

Got 50mi & 2500ft of climbing though. Need to get some work done and hopefully get another ride in tomorrow.

@Asprilla not envious of those hubs at all :( take them out the box and show us!

Well today was my first real ride since December 8th and it showed. I totally bonked on the last 3-4 miles of the 45mi route I've done a few times. I blame lack of fitness, the wind and not bringing any food. My pre-ride bowl of porridge has been sufficient for rides under 50 miles usually but not today it seems.

I felt dizzy and light-headed and completely sapped of all strength. I was pedalling squares and I thought I was going to faint or fall off my bike haha.

Commuting 11 miles 5 days a week clearly doesn't do that much for fitness!

Hi'

Not familiar with racer bikes so bare with me! The front wheel has some play and it looks like the cone is loose an just needs tightening up, Any good guides or tips on what i need to do? Shop have told me it'll be £12 for them to do it.
