I know most will see this is a joke, but this is exactly the problem here. We blame the victims instead of the people raping.
This isn't much different than the arguments I hear on OcUK, and the western world about how women can stop rape.
Don't go out at night
Don't dress ****ty (provocatively)
Don't get drunk
These are all absolving the rapists of the responsibility, and putting it onto the victims like it was somehow their fault. Instead of attacking the culture of rape and saying raping is wrong, every single country out there does this in their own way.
In Saudi they say girls need to wear a veil to prevent rapes, but that won't stop rapists.
In the western world we tell women to not dress so provocatively, they shouldn't have led them on, they should have fought harder because no isn't enough.
The culture of rape is still prevalent in both places, we just see ourselves as more advanced because our culture is more modern. With Sharia law, Islam, and Saudi Arabia, we see them as having rubbish values and religion. Are our values all that much better over here? I'm not saying either is equal, or that the Saudi regime isn't repressive, but if you are recognizing disgusting attributes in humans, recognize them globally instead of demonizing a country or religion.
Whenever I see anti rape ads, people mock them and say they're wrong and sending the wrong message. The message is tell your sons not to rape. While it seems like it should be common sense, wouldn't this awareness work better in preventing rape than forcing girls to wear veils? If we are going to be critical of society, how they view women, and how they view rape, we shouldn't just focus on the one across the sea to make us feel better, we need to focus on it just as much here.
Rape is a global phenomenon, and of course it's going to be worse in more repressive countries, but to act like it doesn't happen on a sickening scale in our own backyard is complete ignorance.
Teach your sons not to rape is the right way to go about it, because laws like this, telling a rape victim she could have done more to prevent it, doesn't stop rape and never will. We need to stop crime with the criminals, not the victims.
Edit: lol ****ty is a swear word according to OcUK?
