Has Valve the killed Half-Life series?

What? I don't know anything about Dota so I can't comment. Valve are good, but they ain't this amazing company everyone bums them for being, they've done their fare share of bad things, that's all I'm saying. It's just meh hearing it all the time, they ain't as bad as say, EA or Capcom but they ain't the Messiah.

Infact when you take a look at what happened with Left 4 Dead, they are very naughty boys.

I wouldn't compare them with Blizzard though, they are much better than those lazy money grabbers.

What bad have they done?

As far as I'm aware they are a business to make money, yet have supplied fantastic product at ridiculously good prices always.

Not sure I'd call Blizzard money grabbers at all, I'd call them a business attempting to make money, but they still provide a quality product in Starcraft/WoW/Diablo (Yes it wasn't the game people were hoping for but it was still a fairly good game and most people got their moneys worth.)

EDIT: Oh and as for you don't know about Dota so can't comment, you happily did it in a thread before saying it had no lore/valve did no work/copied everything etc. So I mean you are happy to comment on things you don't know about until you are categorically proven wrong, Valve not being all that good is your opinion but your facts on other matters are a load of garbage.

Wow. Shows what you all know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_surrounding_Left_4_Dead_2

Looks like a storm in a teacup to me.

What games company never has a slight bit of controversy? I mean especially someone as large as steam its going to happen, even the regularly circlejerked CD Projekt made a few missteps with those letters they sent out and they are fairly small in comparison.

I dunno, maybe its now hipster to call Valve not very good.

When have I ever said they aren't very good? They simply aren't the perfect company that everyone bums them for being that's all. It's more 'hipster' to blindly see them as the industries leaders, which is a title which, as of yet, nobody deserves. I'd linky to a video that highlights all the faults Valve did during the Left 4 Dead fiasco and it was more than a few nerds getting annoyed, sadly though the video has swearing. YouTube TheAngryJoeShow if you wish to find it yourself.

Aint saying they are bad, but people need to stop putting them on a pedastal because when they do slip up (which they will), they'll fall quickly from grace like Diablo did, which isn't really fair.

Except Diablo was more than one colossal **** up.

Monumental failure of a launch

RMAH - Pay to win end game certainly.

Jay Wilson - '**** that guy'

The PvP that was promised still is not there

I'm sure there are more, no one makes Valve out as perfect but they create very high quality games and offer a reasonably good service via steam.

Yes you might be right it is more 'hipster' to see them as industry leaders in games development as so few people see them as that and it is stupid, just like its stupid to think they aren't actually very good at what they do and fair.

They certainly are leaders in digital distribution, albeit still some way to go the whole steam client is fantastic.

I agree entirely, I haven't yet said they aren't decent, there is just a huge air of fanaticism around them from their fans and it really isn't healthy. I just think that if the whole Steam platform hadn't taken off, they'd of used that to their advantage and started milking their fans by now, and the reason that they make no games either IMO is because they get money from Steam. They are more of a distributor than a publisher/developer.

As for Half Life 3, it's already so hyped (and will be delayed further and further into the future as the hype builds further), that it won't live up to expectations because it's impossible at this point. People expect them to smash the entire industry to pieces with a flawless masterpiece that is beyond perfection, which they can't produce, nobody can. There are much more talented story writers out there (Konami, Yager) and more talented gameplay developers (Ninja Theory, ProjektRED) who are yet to come close to wowing us, and Valve will drop from grace IMO when Half Life 3 doesn't live up to the pedestal it's been placed on. It's the curse that games of a high quality usually fall to.

I wish they would release a proper sequel to Counter Strike Source. Global Offensive is rubbish.

If they leave the aging CSS and ancient CS too long, then they'll hemorrhage their dedicated fan base.

Another successful CS with a excellent HL3 could propel them firmly on top.

However, seeing as a failure could also severely hinder them, I reckon they'll wait for next gen consoles to allow mass launches.

It's been many years since Half-life was top dog, has valve's blunders led to its downfall?

Valve hasn't embraced consoles and kids nowadays probably do not know what half-life is. Have they accepted that they are now publishers over developers?

Will we ever see Counter-Strike 2, if done correctly it could be awesome, yet another franchise that the kids won't know what it is, Call of Duty has killed CS.

Day of Defeat - again killed off by early CoD games and people moving to consoles.

Portal 2 was an exception thankfully.

Team Fortress 2 is good but ruined by MMO bullrubish and crafting, what is crafting anyway?

/rant over.

day of defeat was no rival to anything it was **** :D

Alright I watched the AngryJoe thing, my interpretation of it being they realised they had easily enough new content planned for a new game and decided to do so, you know as any bloody business would. Also lots of 'maybe new campaigns, maybe new characters' from one of the guys talking.

Lots of gobble gobble turkey from Valve guys there and the people interrupting it including Joe himself although he is a bit more balanced and funnily enough realises they are a business.

The reason the don't make a lot of games is because they don't have ridiculous sized teams working on games all the time churning them out and obviously have high quality control?

Also Valve not talented gameplay developers? I'm pretty sure Dota/TF2/CS offer fantastic gameplay in what they intend to do.

Also Valve won't fall from grace on HL3 release because firstly, most people realise HL3 isn't going to be a continous 15 hour orgasm but will likely still be a very good game. They also have other ridiculously successful titles that I've stated before + L4D (which I don't play hence no comment on the gameplay). EDIT : Completely forgot Portal as well, fantastic gameplay and story :)

Also CDPR talented gameplay developers? I'm trying to play through the witcher 1 at the moment and I have to say gruelling combat is an understatement, think I'd rather do minesweeper at times

Regarding this who actually makes CS:GO? Was it even developed by Valve?

To be honest it is pretty damn good, people are scared of change but I can certainly see problems with it. Currently the best multiplayer fps for me of the past few years on the market though.

Indeed. Obvious troll is obvious.

I wouldn't say a troll but just clutching at straws to nail valve, I certainly regret the 16 minutes I sat watching that guy joe put on an 'entertainment show' amongst the 'facts'.

Like I said, whole thing seemed a load of gobble gobble turkey

Lol, say one bad thing against Valve and you're a Troll or desperate to 'nail' them. My point stands proven far stronger than I could have done with my own hand, thank you and ciao.

How was TF2 ruined by mmo bull? It doesnt affect the game. It's widely agreed that the only "new" weapon that is better than the standard weapon is the Scout one. Everything else is cosmetic.

CS was not killed by anything, it's still raging.

Agreed that DoD never really hit the ground running but that doesnt seem like a sign of teh company falling apart. Everyone is allowed an opus.
