Has Valve the killed Half-Life series?

Nail on head, but I expect the next installment to be a "game changer" much as the previous 2, Valve are not EA and have a history of doing things right. Very right.

Have you not played TF2 recently? It used to be great but they turned it into an MMO style buy in game nonsense POS. I used to like going back to play it as everyone starts on the same playing field the same as CS. Now it's all about micro purchases and stupid hats.

hey hey hey, hats are cool.

who cares about half life anyway

If it's anything like HL2 and those offensively short episodes I couldn't care less. Just a scripted roller coaster ride with outrageously dumb AI.

I would much prefer HL1 with those trigger-happy marines, flushing me out of cover with their pesky grenades.

Depending when the game comes out, there will be a substantial amount of people who loved HL1 as young teens, who are now fully grown with families, who don't pay attention to video games.

While you could make the same argument with Starcraft, most people who follow that game are forever alone virgins so naturally they have a lifetime to wait in between iterations, the slightly more mainstream audience of the Half Life series, do not have this entirety to wait.

What the hell am i talking about the game will be the best selling game of all time anyway :D

Half life episodes were some of my top all time favourite games...

I miss days when I used to be so excited waiting in anticipation for a game to be released. I used to literally count the days. Now I couldn't care less...

Feels like life time ago since last half life episode. Makes me bit sad at times lacking that excitement, guess it's part of getting older (24)

No they haven’t killed it but Half lifes has become valves system seller for lack of a better term, next time they want to introduced something they will tack half life 3 onto it to sell it.

Exactly, when they launch the steam console they have talked about, it might be with a new halflife episode or game.
I would expect such a marketting launch anyway.

Half Life 3 will be an exclusive on Steambox, you heard it here first folks :D

Well, I'd guess it would be the game that helped launch it, but not necessarily exclusive. If Steambox failed they'd lose massive sales if it were exclusive, so no doubt it will be available to all platforms but probably optimised better for SteamBox.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure that I read something the other day that was considering a HL film in conjunction with J.J. Abrams.

As for exclusivity on Steambox, I doubt it. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did an early release on Steambox and made everyone else wait a month.

To be fair Valve do have some history of using new game launches as a way of forcing things down people's throats (e.g. HL2 requiring Steam) but it is quite a leap from software to hardware.

No idea what you're on about. Vanilla TF2 is alive and well.

I really cant see your reasons for thinking badly of valve. The l4d thing you mention is just silly really. Some community members doubt valve, throw their panties around but then have a couple of the leaders flowwn to valve to test the new game so they can report back for the doubters to preorder at a faster rate than regular folk?
I quite liked dod too!

The new blizzard have a much worse track record in recent years than valve have had since they were set up.

I personally think that pc gaming wouldnt be what it is today without gaben/valve and thats why I think so highly of it not to mentio the crazy sales or inhouse games they make!

They've not killed it, but it's certainly not well.

The individual episodes were a waste of time. Weren't they meant to be yearly episodes?

I'm not the greatest fan of HL2 either. Promised so much, multiple paths, multiple solutions to puzzles, advanced AI... And delivered a pretty, but linear experience.

Valve have positioned themselves in a difficult corner regarding Half Life 3.

I am sure the game will arrive, but unless it is the 2nd coming in fps the development time will be questioned. If Half Life 3 is basically Half Life 2 but in the next generation of Source then many will walk away disappointed. Not because the game is poor, but because they place Valve on a pedestal.

Despite enjoying HL2 and liking Valve part of me wishes HL3 never appears. Sometimes desire is better than the reality of having.
