Nervous transaction through eBay/Paypal.

Well it's ended !

I filed a case with eBay to investigate the transaction tp see if they thought anything untoward was going on, didnt get a reply.

However I then sent the buyer a message within eBay stating basically that I was unhappy with the transcation as he had made the account hours before making the purchase along with a brand new PP account. So due to the possibly risk of chargeback and high value of the item I would be refunding his 'eCheque' in full. I did however state he could still come and collect it in person with cash and I would give him a £75 discount for doing so, but no response so fair enough.

I then refunded him and asked the buyer to mutually close the case so I could recoup my fees.

The next day I had a note from ebay that the buyer had agreed to mutually cancel the transaction, the fees were refunded and that was that. I had no message from the buyer atall.

So all in all I think I got away lightly, it may have been a scam it may not. I was unhappy with it so I got out when I could.

I have recently sold my Mac through eBay, all well and good. But the transaction is of a very high value (over £1000) and I'm understandably nervous.

My problem is my Buyer has (0) feedback and joined eBay that same day. HOWEVER,

I stopped reading at that point. Even if it is that 1 in a million legit buyer, you don't take the risk.

Why not block buyers that do not have a paypal account, have unpaid item strikes/disputes and/or low feedback scores? You can do all of this as a seller. I make my auctions as strict as I possibly can including not allowing any country outside of the UK. It's not perfect, but it will stop some of the people that are likely to waste your time.

I wouldn't even deal with that person on a low value item. I would instantly cancel the bid. Let alone a mac worth a grand.

It was a scam. There is no may.

sorry, not reading all of this. BUT why did the BUYER not just do a bank transfer and save all this faffing about.

To be, at least that would be a lot easier. for both parties?

almost impossible to reverse a bank transfer and he could be a noobie following the ebay guidelines by the letter
