Well it's ended !
I filed a case with eBay to investigate the transaction tp see if they thought anything untoward was going on, didnt get a reply.
However I then sent the buyer a message within eBay stating basically that I was unhappy with the transcation as he had made the account hours before making the purchase along with a brand new PP account. So due to the possibly risk of chargeback and high value of the item I would be refunding his 'eCheque' in full. I did however state he could still come and collect it in person with cash and I would give him a £75 discount for doing so, but no response so fair enough.
I then refunded him and asked the buyer to mutually close the case so I could recoup my fees.
The next day I had a note from ebay that the buyer had agreed to mutually cancel the transaction, the fees were refunded and that was that. I had no message from the buyer atall.
So all in all I think I got away lightly, it may have been a scam it may not. I was unhappy with it so I got out when I could.
