***The Official Sony Xperia Z Thread ***

Ive never had white before and fancy a change so gone with it.

That's what I said with my galaxy S3 and it worked out as a mistake, although the Z should be nice with the nice materials used and the white looks more towards the HTC off White then the Samsung cheap plastic white..

Sony have got the white model spot on giving it a black face with a white border and back. I don't like the look of all white fronts 'cos the screen when off sticks out like a sore thumb.

Don't go down the white route, you will only regret it in a months time! :p

The only white phone that I like the look of is the one X, but after a month I would start to wish I had the grey model :p

have to laugh at their opening paragraph, shouldn't have expected any different considering the name of the blog :p

I might be missing something, but nowhere in that post did they say the Xperia Z had better viewing angles? They were simply saying it is not important for most people, which it isn't.

Because the images that show the Xperia from angles show the contrast blown and colour lost...

Yes but once again, when do you ever look at your phone at a funny angle? Yes, looking at the pictures the viewing angles aren't great on the Xperia Z, but I only ever look at my phone head-on. Not sure I understand why this is an issue to be honest.

Lost interest in this given the lack of screen wow. I don't think the N2 will be beat this time round. 1080P or otherwise.

I know they didn't say that it had better viewing angles (if they did, then I would avoid that site like the plague :p). It is the way they wrote it as if to say this is the only con of the phone (well for one it isn't imo, their software skin is poor, their support for getting updates out quickly is awful) and then to essentially brush the viewing angle problem under the carpet.

Viewing angles might not be a problem for you and many other people, however, they are for me and many others here and as has been said for a 5" screen costing £500, there is no reason why they can't improve the viewing angles especially when they have just proved that the iphone 5, nexus 4 (which costs £240 or £290), DNA and one X etc. are far better in that area.

As for when people would look at their phones from an angle, well this is when I would:

- I carry out tasks when my phone is just sitting on the desk, couch etc.
- when lying in bed
- showing photos/videos etc. to more than 1 person i.e. 1 person at each side

And for point 1 and 2, that is usually in lower lit/dark conditions thus the viewing angles will be even worse/more noticeable

Not to mention their black levels are the worse I have seen (aside from previous sony phones), just look at the photo where it is viewed from an angle, screen is nearly white......

The slightest change in angle often produces washed out colours, with the IPS screen on the one X and any SAMOLED screen this isn't a problem at all, you will always get the best colours no matter what angle you view it from.

Well will just have to wait and see. True i might regret it but dont know unless i experience it myself.

Fair enough. I can see how it might be important to some.

Personally, it's not an issue for me and I certainly wouldn't let it dictate my buying decision. I'm more interested in the fact that it looks great, is water resistant and has a powerful chipset. A phone like this should easily get me through the next 12 months. My only niggle is the size - not sure whether I fancy a 5-inch phone...

Viewing angles have and never will bother me. Ive had lots of handsets and ive never been bothered or to be honest noticed any change if im being honest. But we all have our own requirements from a phone. When i read reviews on viewing angles or benchmarks i just skip through them all. Of no interest whatsoever to me. But other areas that interest me wont interest others and so on and so on and so on! :D

Yup, it just comes down to what is important to the end user in the end :)

5" is a bit on the big side of things really imo and it doesn't help when the design is essentially a rectangle slab so the phone doesn't feel as comfortable in one hand, a bit like the GS 3 compared to the one X, GS 3 is bigger by a bit, however, it feels smaller/more comfortable in the hand due to the ergonomic design.

iirc the Z is 1mm wider than the GS 3 (most important dimension when it comes to comfortability and one handed use)

The Oppo Find 5 looks pretty nice but I ultimately don't see the appeal of it.

To be blunt, you know in a couple of months there are going to be better options than both the Find 5 and the Xperia Z in all likelihood, so why bother with them... :(

I guess it all depends on pricing if it comes out £100 cheaper than the Z or HTC's new offering it might do ok but its only going to be the same sort of price.

Am not phone hunting anyway sticking with the DNA.

Looks good but it would have to be £350-£400 to tempt me away from the Xperia Z and not a fan on the lower front of the phone, reminds me of previous Sony phones which are best forgotten lol

And a few months after that better options then those phones as well.
I dont bother waiting. I just get whats available at the time. If i was to wait for the next best thing all the time i dont think id actually have a phone in my possession. :D
