I take it that picture isnt of the local lad in question cos that's Brendan Fairclough. Seen that stepdown pop up on the net a few times. Looks cool if a bit daunting :p

Thats not the same stepdown, and yes in this one it's Brendan.

The lad I saw doing it is Jono Jones, also a WC racer. Kieranv, the backflip you saw was Jono's twin brother- Matt.

We did take pics of Jono sending, but they came out crap

So I've got a couple of rather retarded questions incoming.. Like always :D

What will the steerer be on my forks? I see all different sizes and stuff, but no idea to tell which is which :S

Second, if you buy a frame, does it come with a BB preinstalled, or do you have to buy that afterwards? I did say they were retarded, but I gotta learn. :D

Steerer is most likely 1-1/8" from the picture, but it could be a tapered steerer, 1.5" - 1-1/8" bottom to top. Frames don't normally come with a bottom bracket, cranksets come with a bottom bracket usually.

Alright cheers :p Also.. If I was to buy a frame, how would I know what steerer/headset it needed? Just by the size of the headtube or?

Well yes and no. Some frames will only take a certain type of headset, nevermind the size. Best thing to do is find your frame, then look at compatible components. Just like buying a motherboard and finding compatible ram, CPU etc..

Most frames follow the standardised headset identification system (S.H.I.S) now so it's easier to find what'll work. The easiest way is to use cane creek's headset finder to identify the right top and bottom cup for your frame.

A Kona Honzo.

Thanks andelusion. And sorry for all the questions people, quiet day at work and I got very inquisitive. :D

Can only find info on the 2012 version but looks like it is a full 1.5" head tube with an integrated headset, so dependent on the headset fitted will be able to take any steerer width.

£600 hardtail 29er?

Workmate's looking for a new hardtail, and would really like a 29er.

Stipulation is that it must be available from somewhere that does CycleScheme - http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/

We've got a Giant dealership local to us, and we're off to look at a Revel 29er 0 tomorrow morning, but the spec looks a little meh, can anyone recommend something suitable please?

Just got a wheel built by Superstar. Wheel turned up two days after ordering it which is good I guess, shame the build is awful. There's literally no tension to the spokes, the thing would just fall to bits if ridden on anything other than tarmac!
I'm getting another wheel built up by Just Riding Along, I let them have a look at the Superstar wheel whilst I was there and they just laughed at it....
