Following this on an American forum I post on. Apparently the police shot tear gas into the cabin and stormed it. Latest is that the cabin is on fire and shots are being heard.

He was a navy officer with marksmanship medals so he's presumably not going to go down without a fight.

I think they think he's in there. Suggested to let the fire burn through the (potential) basement as a precaution.

Only chance is if he'd had it planned in advance and had a way out (tunnel) which seems unlikely.

My friend is in Big Bear Lake at the moment and has been there since before this happened, it's very interesting hearing from him what it is like over there. Lots of SWAT and other special forces all over the place.

Sounds like he's dead, they threw in gas and then heard one bullet coming from in the cabin. Obvious conclusion.
