It is not the same thing as state job creation can be used to have a positive influence on the local community whereas workfares only benefit is to the shareholders of the companies exploiting it.

'Only benefit?' ? So it can't possibly help someone who wants to work in the retail sector, perhaps in a graduate role, to work in that store for a while?
Or it can't help someone show that they weren't just sitting on their ass all day?

But it is still the same scheme enforced by the same sanctions, so if there is any consistency, it should be considered the same.
However, I am aware that a great many who follow the economic left don't think coherently, so the double standards have to be expected.

Um that wasn't the point. She was unemployed for years, does work experience at Poundland and then FROM THAT gets employment at Morrisons. Ergo, the experience at Poundland enabled her to get a job with Morrisons (disproving her point that working at Poundland served no purpose).
It is always so easy to spot someone with nothing constructive to add to the discussion...
Does it matter? demanding support from those who work tends to mean you don't get to dictate the terms of their support...
do you really think her 3 weeks experience at Poundland was the deciding factor that raised her above the other "200" applicants?
I wonder if she even wrote it on her CV considering her opinion on the scheme. I've always imagined dolph as some kind of right wing, economic terminator. Seeing the world in simple + or - £ signs with no thought or understanding for the humanity they represent.

yes yes the poor tax payer, well sorry dolph but iv worked since i was 16 (now 35) and apart from two long stints on the dole, this being the 2nd iv always paid taxes. so where does that leave me ??
should i be carted off to workfare and encouraged to work for £2 an hour at poundland for the vast experience of stacking shelves for a few weeks ?
as iv said a few times in this thread and many keep ignoring, if you are on basic jsa and do a 30 hour a week stint you are only getting £2.39 an hour. sure if your getting housing benefits and other such things you may very well be hitting min wage level's, but if you are just hit min wage then if it was a real job you'd be claiming working tax credits to bring your wage up to a more livable level.
it amazes me that people keep missing that point, its not that people wont work, they just wont work for less than the LEGAL amount.
and talking about question time i could have punched all 3 of the main parties reps that where spouting utter nonsense last night, Marie miller and her quip that she was already working for free in a museum and it wasnt getting her anyway was disgusting. some people volunteer for such posts because they have a passion for it, also isnt that what the big society is supposed to be, people helping out in their community for the good of others.

Well actually yes it does matter, tax payers terms must be lawful.
Those aren't the people getting sent there though... Otherwise there wouldn't be so many complaints
+1.. It never fails to amaze me you how out of touch with the human race these people are, regardless of party. If you watch their body language they are all dysfunctional and don't know how to react when talking to real people. (IE not MP's)
Equally, living in a developed society with values and laws that are fundamentally opposed to the exploitation of the most vulnerable means you don't get to depreciate the support you are providing past a certain level.
They may not be the only sort of people getting sent there, but surely they are a part of it?
The scheme obviously does have its flaws, but that doesn't mean it has 0 benefit for everyone apart from the companies, which is what ThePirateHulk was saying.
I can acknowledge that quite happily, and agree that the system in place needs amending as a result.
Will you acknowledge that workfare is not forced labour or slave labour as explicitly confirmed in the recent judgement, and make/requests amendments to the site you keep referencing?
