Does my business name give off a negative first impression?

Not as bad a name as that Moonpig-type greeting cards website I've seen adverts for on TV recently, The Dog's Doo-dahs or something. Utterly repulsive ad campaign, as if the name wasn't already enough.

Fair enough. I definitely commend the effort to go for something more original sounding though, it certainly goes some way to creating a good image, perhaps more importantly an image that appears slightly more creative than just a name.

Just be careful of existing uses of names. I just thought of a couple of suggestions for you and predictably enough, they already appear to be in use. This isn't necessarily from a legal point of view (though bear that in mind) but more so from a competition angle, if you choose something that 3 other people already have 5 years worth of attaining a good google ranking for, you'll struggle to get noticed.

Earlier shouts of 'Three Thirds Media' might actually be a fairly good one

This is the thing.

I've literally tried loads of domains in the godaddy bulk buyer to check availability but none are free. I must have tried 200+ domains all of them being taken. Two Thirds Media was my favourite out of the few that were available.

The problem is the average Joe Bloggs on the street isn't going to know about the "Two Thirds Rule", me included. So the clever name is wasted on them.

Consequently they're just going to take the connotation of what they know two thirds means and subsequently they may think as suggested, why only two thirds?

I'm aware that the average Joe Bloggs won't know what it means. To be honest it sounded like a good name, and had room to play with was 2/3 was, IE what was the other third. Also thought it'd be nice to make a logo around.

There was a photography business called snappy snaps

That's fine for a photography company.

I was talking about a camera manufacturer. The names won't always be product related as it is hard to find something that works.

Canon, Nikon, Kodak just roll off the tongue and work, even if they are not words/don't make sense.

if your planing to go international 2/3rds is fine as English numbers its pronounceable and understood in most countries.

But I know nothing about what you actually do from they company name, it has no meaning to me as I know nothing about photography and does sound half a job name.

Hows about Aardvark photography? it will place you right at the start of the listings? :)

Cheers for the comments guys. Think I'm just gonna go with it. Have had some negative feedback also a lot of good. It will depend how I brand myself I guess.

Dude, not a word of a lie: a colleague of mine had a client called "Who Cares" care homes. Now THAT gives the wrong impression

megalol :D

I realise we live in a world where image is everything but poring over domain checkers just to find something that looks slick on a business card is maybe not the best use of your time.

Nobody cares what your name is, you just need to be awesome at what you do.

That said, 'two thirds' does have negative connotations and you probably don't want to start a business on the back foot.

If you do stick with the name, get a new logo :)

Here is a business trick i will share with you... call it "AAA123 Photos"... that way it will show up at the front of the yellow pages when people are looking.

Great idea Grandad! Are you a friend of JR Hartley?

Do this, I bought my parents business with from them and I wish I had changed the name. One compnay is called 360 Healthcare and their name is always above the companies which start with the letter A.

When People are looking for a company they will always start at the top of the list.

Yellow Pages is in rapid decline. It won't be long before it isn't printed. In addition what you said is not necessarily true.

Absolute nonsense. Name and brand is very important in online marketing.

After recieving a lot of feedback regarding the "two thirds" being negative and "media" being too generic.

How do these sound?

www.xlode.com
www.klyzo.com
www.viidy.com

My only concern is that they don't really say what I do. Are any of the above better than two thirds media

If you keep posting that link and the name of your business this thread will end up top result in Google.

Also, in case you've forgotten, a moderator removed your business link earlier but you've posted it again.
