Got given a comp not sure what was up with it, Ive put in some ram, hd, and a 256mb gfx card

but when I turn on the monitor says no signal, the lights fans etc run on mobo but nothing

Im just using a very basic psu mind you

Are you plugging the monitor cable into the right socket?

Is the onboard graphics, if the motherboard has it, disabled in the BIOS?

Probably daft questions but it's easily done/forgot. :)

Yes i was going to say try a diffrent graphics card this could be your problem if your not getting a display at any point.

Hmm have you tried the monitor on another PC i had this problem with an old monitor and system it still worked (turned on) but would not display anything i tried hooking PC up to my TV and it worked fine.
P.S
Thanks shoot1st

Yeah, like a big calculator battery.

If you look online for the manual for the motherboard it'll tell you what to do in there to clear the CMOS.

Ah, I see. Have you remembered to plug the additional power lead into the motherboard? From looking at the picture, it looks like it's got an 8-pin power socket up near the cpu.

Failing that and if clearing the CMOS doesn't do anything I'm not sure what to suggest next, other than maybe the PSU not being powerful enough, is it just some standard, cheap PSU?
