Has my SSD failed already?

Back in July I ordered a 120 gb Sandisk ultra (3gbps). 2 days ago my system (win8 pro 64bit) suddenly froze however some things still worked. The mouse was still moving, even some of the tsskbar was highlighting, however nothing else would work, no ctrl alt esc/del etc. No amount of waiting or keyboard hammering would fix it. A simple reboot and my BIOS wouldn't find the ssd but a full off and on and it worked like normal. All was fine until yday when it did it twice within 30mins. I did a win8 'refresh' and that seemed to fix it. Anyway, got home tonight from work and it was fine until about 11pm when it did it again.

I ran HD tune pro and did check disk. I did it twice and both times it hung in this position...

Edited as it's a huge pic

What does this mean? What should I do? I bought it from here, is this drive 'broken' enough to warrant replacement if there is no fix?

PS sorry for dodgy post I did it from my phone out of frustration from my PC.

try leaving it unplugged from the machine for a few hours and then try, once its working id backup any improtant data from it just incase

So after having my PC off for about 20 hours I turned it back on, ran HD tune and it froze again in exactly the same position. Does this suggest my SSD has a bad block which has failed? Should I RMA it or are there other work arounds?

I'm not impressed tbh, In 10 years I've had only had 1 hdd fail and it was 6 years old, I've had this dds 8 months! Although I'm fortunate I can still turn it on and access files, although being an SSD it's only my OS and some easy to re-install programs. Still a hassle though.

I've had the exact same thing happen with my vertex 2e just 2 days ago. Mine isn't coming back to life anymore though. Back everything up right now.

it could be idk

did you backup all your data off it? if so try doing a secure erase on the drive

stick it on a bootable usb stick or burn it to a cd and boot from it

Thanks, I'll give this a go at some point. I take it if I secure erase I'll have to then reinstall windows before being able to tell if it's been fixed? Are there any linux hd analysis programs? A live-ubuntu would be a much easier way to check the ssd. I have a feeling I'll be finishing off my book tonight, rather than watching tv :p

if you have a spare hdd best way is to clone the ssd to it and secure erase and clone back,

and yeah you need windows to run any programs

It says it has the potential to brick it. Will my drive still be under warranty if it gets bricked?

Ok, so parted magic wouldn't work, said to use GSmartControl, clicked on that and the drive isn't visible. I'm going to restart now and see if GSmartControl can see the drive and more importantly what it says about the drive.

Not even visible anymore LOL What a pile of ****. I turn it off at the wall now and overnight and see if I it's visible tomorrow. Does anyone know if I pay overclockers the difference I can get a better quality drive than the one I've got now when I RMA it? I don't really want an exchange on the same pos.

Interesting...

I don't see why it wouldn't be covered by warranty, I haven't done anything you shouldn't bee able to do with a hard drive, I've tried to check its health and write to it lol does anyone know what their hours are? Any weekend hours or post 5, or an I going to have to phone during my lunch break?

Or drop a thread in the CS forum. Bailey and 5UB have been awesome with the various issues I've had over the past few months. Much better than the webnote people, and cheaper than calling the premium number.

it should be fine,it gives that warning on any ssd you use with it,ive used it on my corsair force gt a few times and its fine, you might have to put the pc to sleep,it will prompt you and it comes back on and detects the drive for secure erasing
