Geforce Titan rumours.

But they won't get away with selling a 78 at £2000

What you forget is the Titan is extremely limited and a collectors card as well as a performance card. The 780 will not be limited to less than 10,000 cards.

If they can get away with the titan then they can get away with the 780. simple really. supply and demand

It will never sell well, it's a limited edition card. The market would not sustain with cards being sold at £800 as the norm.

Put it this way, AMD would make exponentially more profit selling a 7970 at £300 than they would at £800, because significantly more people will by at £300, thus greatly offsetting the additional £500 per card they'd get at £800.

i hope it doesn't sell well but what i am saying is that if it does sell well then dont be surprised of the 780 is 600-800.

Someone here touched on how cpu and mobo's have gone up in price and it is not good. the reason why prices has increased is because of the same worrying issue i have been discussing about the titan. I.E so long as people are happy to spend 800 on a gpu, 350+ for mobo and 600 for cpu then intel/amd/nvidia will continue to increase the price ripping people off left right and center.

my original i7 920 build cost me only 1k and had a 260gtx, top of the line mobo at only £200.

if i was to build a similar setup today with todays tech it will probably cost close to 1.5k

Nvidia are selling at this price for 1 of 2 reasons I think:

1) Yields are so bad that the cost to make them is such they have to be priced like this to make anything on them;

2) Yields are so bad they know they will sell out for a good long while at this price even at full production capacity.

Of course it could be 1) & 2) together.

What I don't think is happening is that Nvidia are selling at this price because they can/because there is no competition. Assuming the same yield costs as prior high end single GPU parts I suspect they would make more money overall selling for £500-£600.

Firstly, this hasn't really happened that much, and secondly, playing the jealousy card seriously cheapens your post.

Thirdly, you're making it out to be much more serious than it is, it's people talking about buying graphics cards. Pathetic, and taking long hard looks at themselves is something that needs to be reserved for situations of importance, not splurging out on the latest toys.

Well I think in some cases it is jealously. I don't believe for a second that some of the spite being thrown isn't driven by jealously. I wasn't on about you or Andy in particular on this point but more on a general level.

Again, not you, but some of the fallacies being spouted in this thread are mind boggling. I really hope people don't believe some of them.

Good post and I think when production kicks into full flow, price drops to £600 would make sense.

I love morning money :D

The question is how many people game above 1600p, this is the target market for the Titan, below 1600p people would be better off saving some money and getting 2 x gtx 670/80s 7950/70s or even a 690.

How many people on this thread have a 3 monitor setup, I know Gregster and a few others have.

How many people who game below 1600p are prepared to send £830 - £900 on a Titan when much better performance can be had for much less.

That's their way of justifying it and making it feel like good value. No doubt they will continue to think they have achieved good value as the months go by as they benchmark it and gloat and upload their scores.

Now? haha it's all about snobbery and how much money you are prepared to spend. People actually think now that having three £800+ cards turns them into some sort of god.

And the reason? people have made it clear that so long as they can feel good about themselves and think they are better than others then they are prepared to pay for it.

Andy everyone is entitled to an opinion but what your not entitled to do is assume from the three paragraphs quoted that anyone who buys a Titan is
1. some kind of snob
2. have god like delusions for indulging in there hardware prefs
3. people can feel good about themselves and by paying for a Titan they are re-inforcing the belief.

People have likes and dislikes sure I will be getting a Titan and if money works out in a few months I will get another.

I have never been or been seen to be a snob or think that I am in anyway superior to the next chap for owning some high end hardware.

My resoning for buying a Titan is I have worked damned hard for my pennies and once in a while I like to get something without worrying about the price simples its a reward to myself and reflects the hard work I have put in to earn the money.

I don't think it will make me feel better about myself but it will be good to know I have a card that will shine in most everything I ask of it.

I do not have the techno knowledge of you chaps I know my way around but not to the point where I think its ok to condescend to others, label and broadly mock them for making a purchase.

People will have allsorts of reasons to buy a Titan me I have earned it and I am going to enjoy gaming with one .... that's pretty much it. :)

Yes Monopoly and Who wants to be a millionaire.

So we can learn how to make more wonga for the next round of cards.:D:p:D

Monopoly :D sweet I could go for that :D

I just read a couple of pages on Xtreme Systems forum, civilised discussion.

What really is the problem here ? Make your point, maybe come back with a reply and move on......simple

People just will not let things drop  or just post to get a reaction !

In that context it is worrying, if people are consistantly prepared to pay high prices for cards, nvidia and AMD will be only to happy to carry on charging high prices.

:)

@Greg,

What would you say if the 8970 was to make a dramatic appearance 6 weeks later and almost matches Titan in most titles but beats it in a few(GE tiles for talking sake)for £500 or even worse, betters it?

It's viable as AMD does have it, Nvidia threw the 580 out very, very quickly and wasn't expected, perhaps AMD are playing games.;)

It would also leave the 7970 sitting in a comfortable position in the £300 price bracket.

How about this:

If you have the money and want one - Buy one.
If you don't have the money but want one - Tough ****
If you don't have the money and don't want one - Look elsewhere.

Why am I not entitled to assume that? They seem to be entitled to go around saying that any one who doesn't want one either.

1. Can't afford it.
2. Is a hater.
3. Is jealous.
4. Insert reason here.

That is, by their own confessions the only reason some one wouldn't buy Titan. And it's that sort of thinking that is causing the problem in the industry and the world (see the point about housing).

People have likes and dislikes sure I will be getting a Titan and if money works out in a few months I will get another.

Then you are buying into it and creating a rod for your own back. I would start saving in that case because in X months time when the 7xx cards come prepare to pay £800+ for the top end one because you have already shown Nvidia that that's a perfectly acceptable price to pay for one.

You seem to have figured out a way to convince yourself it's worth it so by all means go right ahead. As I said, don't be surprised when your good old pal Nvidia charges the same again, and again, and again.

I believe the terminology is Turkeys voting for Christmas.

I don't think it will make me feel better about myself but it will be good to know I have a card that will shine in most everything I ask of it.

I do not have the techno knowledge of you chaps I know my way around but not to the point where I think its ok to condescend to others, label and broadly mock them for making a purchase.

People have pretty much one reason why they are buying Titan but I've done that one so I won't waste any more of my time on it.

You know it's quite funny because yesterday I was told I was insulting people by telling them they were foolish for spending £830 or more on a graphics card. Yet they have had no problem coming back with retorts such as -

"People are not buying Titan because they can't afford it"

"People are just jealous"

"People are haters because they can't afford it"

And so on. It's quite remarkable how being told they are crazy for spending that on a GPU is seen as insulting yet telling people they can't afford it (which I would imagine would be STRONGLY offensive to those who are absolutely skint due to this recession) is perfectly fine and OK. Doesn't matter who you offend so long as you can find a good reason in your head to justify making the GPU market become all about how much money you can spend.

How about this:

If you have the money and want one - Buy one.
If you don't have the money but want one - Tough ****
If you don't have the money and don't want one - Look elsewhere.

It's that attitude that you will find most people find grossly offensive.
