Supplements the debate/discussion thread

I did some additional searching. Here's one of the links I followed

http://www.meetup.com/westonaprice-london/messages/boards/thread/10185735/10

Seems people have done some looking in to this and had responses from the company as well regarding the refining process as well.

http://www.ktc-edibles.co.uk/index.php

Also checking out the company, they are UK based, covered by our food standards regulations etc. I know this doesnt guarantee quality but for what I use coconut oil for (a quick shot of MCT's during my fast periods) how much worse then a £15 tub could this stuff actually be?

Why not give it a try? From what I hear the MCT rush is quite noticeable so you'll soon know if it's doing the job! Unless there's some other issue I'm missing with all this coconut (eugh) oil talk.

If you want to be very fair/scientific about it - buy it from the online stores I gave and from Tesco and compare how they taste. I trust the quality of the online store having emailed them and discussed it with them - but Tesco et al. not so much :p

Oh I don't trust supemarkets, but having looked in to KCT as the producer and distributor I would be suprised if there was any change for the tesco specific product, especially as they distribute to all the supermarkets, and I can't see them running a different batch for each one.
I have been using the myprotein stuff, and it gives a small boost, and stems hunger during fasts and that's pretty much all I am after.

I will give the telcos stuff a go, and if it sucks then it's only £2 .

I'm dubious as to whether the (online sourced) coconut oil is that much better than Tesco (el cheapo) brand.

Incidentally, the coconut oil which Freefaller linked to earlier (Biona Organic Raw Virgin Coconut Oil 800 g) is not being sold, pending an investigation.

I shall try and Freefaller's recommended coconut oil and shall compare with the Tesco stuff.
I'll report back in about 1 month.

And with regards to trusting UK food suppliers - are you serious?
Have you not been reading the news stories lately?
We are currently in the grip of a horse meat scandal and UK food industry is at best, as trustworthy as foreign food industries. There have been so many food scandals/problems over the last few years, I do not hold the UK food standards in a high regard.

Apparently, more items are being investigated (for horse DNA), so expect the scandal to get bigger over the coming weeks.

After the mad cow disease problems a few years ago, many countries refused to import our beef. Britain was banned by the EU, from exporting its beef for a few years. This is what foreign countries think of our produce - ie. not fit for human consumption. Russia only lifted the ban on exporting our beef about 5 months ago.

The UK does not have high standards, as some of you seem to believe. And foreign countries hold the UK's food supply, in low regard.

I've got some from both links. Seem fine and I trust the source but hey. Look at the horsemeat scandal... :p
That's why I never trust supplements companies and generally never trust mass production foods. I bang on about it enough.
You take your chances with foods and supplements. Whatever they're investigating I'd as I'm sure others would like to hear.

That's why I'm rather fastidious when it comes to purchasing food. But it's undoubtedly my foreign blood too and being a food snob ;)

Item Under Review

This product is not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described.

We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you may still find this product available from other sellers on this page.

...make of that what you will.

Out of interest, is horse-meat more "anabolic" than beef? ie. is the protein from horsemeat better for bodybuilding, gram for gram? I believe it is referred to as biological value (BV). Whey has a very high BV, as does chicken and beef.

Has anyone looked into this?

My understanding is that horsemeat is about 25% of the price of beef and for those on a budget, horsemeat might be better value.

I'm curious about this as well and if it is possible to get legitimate horse-meat in the UK? The price difference is certainly appealing.

The coconut oil company I ACTUALLY recommended after a friend's suggestion was this one: http://www.coconutoilcompany.com/

The amazon one was I had come across before the above link.

I love horsemeat - the protein content is about the same per/lb. However I don't know about it's bioavailability. It's probably around the same.

Some ktc coconut oil purchased, had to go with 2 250ml bottles as no tubs available, heated it up and poured in to a more suitable container. Initial findings, it looks the same when solid and liquid, it smells more pleasantly of coconut as well over the MP stuff, and at £1 a bottle it's a bargin so far.

I will feed back on taste after my first morning coffee with the oil on Tuesday.

Cheers Zaf :)

No worries

I wanted some Caffeine Pro instead of buying Pro Plus started a sales job with a lot of driving!

But to make the £2.50 delivery worth it I've also tried Total MRP, Unflavoured with Flavdrops Liquid Flavouring, Natural Toffee as it was on offer :)

Anyone have any experience of Animal Stak? The Animal Pak multivit are brilliant and was wondering about their other products.

When did TPW start a Jaffa Cake flavour and why did no one tell me!? All sold out now :(. So much want.

Real talk though, needs some whey whats the latest and greatest atm? I've been lording it up with Gaspari MyoFusion for a while and it tastes awesome, but the price has gone up whey too much since the whole VAT shambles.
