going to riding my first 50 miles ride on sunday , a reliability ride with the club, so no idea how thats gonna go (my first sportive if u like)

Whats a good meal to have the night before?
im thinking pasta with rice ?

I'm not going to be there Chris. I've been off since Tuesday with a chest infection, I'm only just starting to feel 'normal' now and am still on antibiotics.

Have a good ride tomorrow, stick with the group for the start, but don't be scared to go off on your own. I did it in 3 hrs and 12 mins last year and got lost at the end or it'd have been sub-3 hrs.

Food wise tonight, pasta is better IMHO and protein never hurts. In the morning eat around 75g (uncooked weight) of porridge around 2 hrs from the start. You'll need to learn what your body needs while riding, but you should be having a couple of bars/gels an hour. Some people need more, some need less. Two bottles if you can. That's it.

Have fun and hopefully I'll see you soon ;)

Rode 170km today in 7hr 12mins, got home and looked at my Garmin and then data was there. Just got it off the bike to upload and it's lost my ****ing ride. :( I rode with a friend who recorded it on his iPhone and uploaded it, is there anyway to borrow his data and trim the beginning and end so I can at least record it on my log?

Have you plugged it in to check whether the file is still on there?

i guess my bike gets used looking at these stats..

Use GPSBabel to convert it to a TCX?

will look at that, thanks

awww sorry to hear that mate , hope you feel better soon

Thnanks for the advice, ive had some rice tonight with a cottage Pie

ifor breakfast i always have porridge, with full fat milk, wamred up in the microwave

I did 50 miles not long ago, 30 miles with the club and when they finnished i rode an extra 20 miles on my own, and i found it much harder on my home, so im hopeing ill be in a group tommorow that i find a good pace for me, otherwise im going to struggle

i did the original reliability route a few weeks back on my own, and it was hard going on my own

when your back in the saddle, lets get together one Sunday and do a group ride together or do a ride out on our own and get a pint along the way

Finally come of age - bought some shimano R077 shoes!! Had to buy the ones which can take the look cleats too for my velodrome trip for their bikes. :D

On way there i was surprised f i hit 18mph as i felt dog rough and struggling. on way back i looked down and i was doing 22/23 in places without much effort!! And 30mph+ on the gentle hills!! :D

Night and day difference! :)

Cheers. Felt really strong all ride, only a couple of slight dips, which were nothing a Clif bar couldn't sort out ;)

I really think I had another 50 miles in me, and if it were summer with more light, I probably would have gone for it too!

finally worked it out

all i had to do was download the file (gpx) and put it into the "newfiles" folder
once you reboot the garmin, it automatically converts the file and puts it into the "courses" folder

Mega kudos.

I found my 100mi very tough. Perhaps not surprising given my longest rides this year have been 80km and 60km I bonked horrifically at around the 100km point and struggled on to 120km before stopping for some food and a Coke to revive myself. Made the classic error of not eating enough and by the time I realised I felt too sick to eat anything. After the stop things were much better (comparatively, it was a real struggle).

Really screwed myself up doing this challenge, just happy to have finished.

Need to be much better prepared for this length of ride in the future.

One thing I've found useful is that on my Garmin I have it set to play an alarm every hour to remind me to eat. You can have it set to whatever time interval suits you obviously. It works really well, as long as you don't leave your bars in your car of course! :(
