I suppose it's do-able, but the Etape is hard. Go expecting to suffer and you won't be disappointed.

Yep I have a healthy amount of trepidation and am mentally prepared for it to be the toughest thing I have ever done. The course this year is apparently (easier) than the last couple of years however 16km at 6.5% and 11 at about 8% will do for me!

57kg?!?! You can have some of my 90kg if you want. I've got plenty spare...

haha happy to take a couple of kg off you if you can guarantee they will go on my legs rather than the belly.

No chance! It's only the leg weight that makes getting the belly weight up hills even remotely possible.

If I had my legs at your weight I'd probably look ridiculous but I'd be winning the TdF for fun :D

Yeah, I wasn't chucking gels down me quick enough for the first 40-50m so by the time I was near reaching Macclesfield I felt my power dropping off significantly. Luckily I passed a petrol station so I nipped in for a quick chocolate/energy drink boost then started shoving the gels in at a faster pace. After that (and the fact that the Macclesfield - Congleton section was mainly downhill) I was pretty much ok.

Do you find lots of gels gives you a bad stomach? I'm okay with 1 or 2 but any more and I get stomach cramps. Likewise sports energy drinks - I'd have a 2 to 3l in my Camelback for an MTB ride and feel ropey by the end of it.

I get on fine with a bladder full of High5 Zero / Zym / Nuun electrolyte drink and then a bottle with some Lucozade Sport in. Means needing bulkier stuff for carbs.

I seem to be fine with them. That being said I've only really used them on two occasions, both being long rides (a 90m and a 100m), otherwise I don't bother taking food.

Edit: Just had a thought about that though. I've got an incredible sweet tooth so ingesting massive amounts of sugar is par for the course for me. That's possibly why I'm fine with it.

Also, people posting their weight should also post their height so we can tell if you're a chubber or not :)

I'm 90ish KG @ 5'9.

I think I'm one of the heaviest here, being 98kgs @ 6'0

Definitely have weight to lose though and perhaps would be something like 85kgs if I had body fat % of 10-12 rather than 24 :/ oops

I don't know why we have digital scales in the office but they put me at 59.9kg @ 5'4.5"

I'm 6'4" and about 80kg. I'd hope to stay around the same over the summer but realistically I might go up a little if I build my legs up. Hopefully in the process I'd lose a few kg fat.

So i put 35 miles on my Selle Italia SLR Flow Saddle at the weekend, i dont think im really feeling it, does anyone know if you can send them back or is that it? ill get used to it if i keep it but its just not as nice as my old saddle
