Nokia 920 or Note 2

I have the note 2 and my boyfriend has the 920. I love what you can do on the Note, but I'd rather it was heavy like the 920, I prefer heavier phones.

My boyfriend LOVES his new 920 but I'm not that impressed. Still it depends on what you want it for. I use the S note features at work but you could just download "one note" and have the same effect without a stylus.

Still, the note 2 is pretty damn speedy.

I was deciding between these two recently, I would have got the 920 if EE weren't so useless but I'm glad I ended up with a Note 2, the stabilized camera is still a pretty outstanding feature but that's not how I use my phone most of the time (plus they need to fix the focus issue).

As much as I like the Windows Phone platform it's still too immature, it needs more apps and an improvement on the quality of the existing ones before I'd be completely happy with it. I do miss the live tiles though.

^ Windows+ update coming in Q1 + all major apps should be released around then too.

The only apps I miss are Natwest Banking and Spotify. Spotify I am replacing with Xbox music though.

I wanted the Lumia. The exclusivity resulted in my getting a Note II instead. It's my first Android handset and at first, I didn't like it - found the widgets useless (still not really using them) and hated the way everything is disjointed. Those criticisms still stand, and I can add to it a bitter hatred for the way Android handles email. However, I haven't used my iPad since getting the Note II (I've actually sold it now). Chrome is a fantastic browser - much nicer than the iOS version. Fast and stable. Love the split-screen multitasking too, and I'm happy to have the NatWest app back (really missed this with Windows Phone - I relied on it a lot with iOS). Also - emulators (I'll steer away from saying any more on that front).

I'd say the 920 is probably the best phone on the market for me at the moment - great camera, manageable size and audio quality is reportedly very good (also, Xbox Music). It's everything I wanted in my new phone. The Note II isn't. However, the Note II is just something else entirely. It misses check boxes under 'my perfect phone', but brings forward features that didn't consider essential, but now use all the time. I'm blown away by it. I'll probably trade it for a 920 at some point to see what WP8 is like, but for now I'm happy.

EE Exclusivity allows for Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin users to use the 920. Unless Voda / O2 and the likes offer you something REALLY good like Company discount or it's business phone, I find hard to say no to the 920 just beause it's exclusive.

By the way, my missus cousin managed to change over from Voda, claiming a cheaper deal than advertised, free phone, charger and is now over the moon. He also had 2 months left on contract which EE agreed to cash back! (Jammy git!)

Just need to talk it up to the sales operator and bring it something reasonable. I suspect they're marketing it at a 'premium' but willing to give if they can bring customer over to them for 2 years.

I am wondering if this exclusivity deal comes to a end in January, as I resent tweet from Nokia may suggest that. I'll have to dig the information / tweet out.

Nokia UK Hi Chris, we've been listening to consumers and have been working to make the Lumia 920 available from other retailers from January onwards. When we have more news, we will let you know here on our Facebook page. Thanks

It is a shame about the tick boxes but you can just get one note. 920 is quite pretty though.

I had the same scenario, owned an iPhone 4 and was between Lumia 920 and Note II.

In the end I picked a Note II and the phone is great but Android apps take quite a lot of adjustment from the GUI aesthetics + intuitive control and functionality of iOS apps. Android requires a lot of setup for basic fundamentals compared to iOS. I love the phone though and with my background I'll be exploring it to it's full extent.

A friend took the WP8 route and he's constantly complaining at the immaturity of the system. It's just too new, there are barely any apps and those that are available have been botched to work with the intention to restore full functionality later. He actually loves the phone itself but his issue is the app availability and immaturity.

Essentially there isn't much smart to your smartphone if the apps fall short.

My advice to anyone thinking of WP8 is to think about what apps they use and check if they are available / any good before commiting.

If you don't use apps then the OS is a joy to use. For me Instagram is pretty much the only app i would like to see added. Everything else is there...but then i don't use that many apps.

I had a 920 if a good camera is important to you then its the way to go but I found WP8 dire, very little customization can be done I tired of it rather quickly.

The app side is pretty poor, I will rephrase that its atrocious but that's my own thoughts, I like messing with phones and trying out things so it made sense to go back too Android for me and got a Droid DNA.

Rather depends if you see the phone as a device to be used or a hobby I guess. I can't think of anything worse than having to spend forever messing around with the device and inconsistant UI. For me it's a smart device that lets me get at the stuff I need to do, not a pass time so WP8 works brilliantly.

As others have said, before committing, check that the apps and services you use are available on WP8. I was dead set on the Lumia 920, but after a month I sold it and got the Note II.

Unfortunately I made a mistake, some of the stuff I used was not available. I missed the Google services, Maps, Calendar, GMail, Drive etc. Yes, I know there are variants available but it just wasn't as fluid as an android device.

I would definitely recommend the Lumia 920 if the applications did not bother you, the phone is excellent and WP8 looks highly promising.

I can't stand WP8 as an OS. I can't put my finger on it, but I found it enjoyable and quirky for a month or two, but now it just feels impractical and clunky. Not to mention the severe lack of apps, and the dreadful quality of apps that are available.

The only pro's are wireless charging, Nokia Drive which is superb, and the People Hub is pretty cool. Other than that, I see no reason to keep it.

I did this thought Ill have a change from Android and got a 920 what a mistake that was, once the novelty wears off of the camera its a pretty average phone really, WP8 is terrible and the app store is a joke, I would think about what you want before you make the plunge and are disappointed.

You would have been better off getting a GS3 imo or waiting a month or two for the HTC One or the GS4.

Neither.

The 920 is a good phone but with a poor underdeveloped OS. The Note 2 is wayyyy to big to actually be useful as a phone.

Get a SGS3, Nexus 4 or similar... or wait for the SGS4 :)

And its hard to say the Apps store is a "joke", seeing as I have no find better working alternatives to what I had on Droid.

Note II is rather large.

I have huge hands and one handed operation is pretty much a disaster, you don't realise how much you rely on one handed operation.

The battery is very good but don't be fooled into thinking it's going to last two full days with regular usage. You'll get 5 hours of screen time max, which sounds low but it's not, still better than most smartphones to date.

Also, Android games are lacking compared to iOS. If you really enjoy gaming then iOS is excellent.
