Track/play car

Are RX8's a massive no no? Does the rotary engine show signs without having to do a compression test?

I will stretch to £2k if I can find something special.

How much dollar does it involve to make a MX5 shift quicker?

Typical supercharger/turbo setups could cost around £2k.

The advantage of an MX5 is that you can have a lot of fun at sensible speeds. They're also very capable on track, despite their lack of straight line speed. That said, they're not exactly horrendously slow either.

I would have though RX8s for that sort of money would be sheds?

Curveball option - Porsche 924 or 944? Have seen a few stripped out as trackday toys.

They are beyond horrendously slow in N/A form :p

Put some T1Rs on (excellent tyres as you'll see below  ) and take it around a wet donington and you'll have bags of fun at very low speeds:

I put the R888s on later in the video, the difference is night and day.

Me too, mostly in a plume of smoke, trundling around like miss daisy, or simply blown up/crashed.

I'm yet to see one overtake anything on track with more performance than... well anything at all, actually.

In comparison to what? A 328i? Of course. A Ford Focus? No :)

"Slow" is a relative term.

Very true, but a ford focus is very slow also :p

I see what you're saying, but I don't consider the 328 to be a fast car either, not when I'm getting out dragged by Clios down the straight anyway :p

At least you get my point :p

They're not that fast granted, but it's wrong to class them as "beyond horrendously slow".

Mr2 is out of the question. My knees are always hitting the indicators, granted it was a import I drove, but I am guessing this made no difference except for the sticks being the wrong way round.

Milky, always said I should have never got rid of the Fiesta ST, didn't have the space for it at the old house though.

Indicators will be the same, they are still on the right hand side on UK models too. Although don't know if all models have the adjustable steering column.

Strange that you say that though, I have troubles in most small cars with knees and indicators but with the MR2 seating position its not an issue at all as my legs are a lot more straightened out!

I was only joking anyway, don't think it would make a great track car. It's more of a GT car tbh.

Rang the Clio up, he says the engine rattles and makes a horrible noise on start up. Pulley I am guessing?

Seemed very nervous speaking to me which isn't normal for a trader? Not sure if to go look at it or not now, pulley doesn't put me off, his confidence talking about it did though...

Its normally the dephaser pulley that goes, although thats normally when warm rather than start up. If it somehow was that you are looking around £600 to sort.

Was a car we took in my old job, thought it was an import because the indicator was on the right.

But yes, I had the problem of knocking the the stalk. kept turning the window wipers on with my left leg, indicating with my right leg.

It tends to be that cars designed for a RHD market will have the indicator on the right side (so you can indicate and change gear) and cars designed for a LHD market (so most European/American-owned stuff) will have the indicator on the left hand side (so you can indicate and change gear)

Most cars we drive over here have it on the "wrong" side (ie the left), because most cars are European/American. It's only when you get into a proper Japanese car that it's on the correct side ;)

I will be charged for the price of the parts needed. No labour costs.

Anyway that car has had a new door and a slightly noticeable spray job. Unrecorded knock I am guessing. Will leave it for now.

Back to the RX8, anyone know what these are like on track? How strong is the gearbox? I know the engine is a ticking time bomb.
