fuming at my neighbour

One day we found our bin full even though it had recently been emptied. When we went through it we found letters for a neighbour across the road. My wife went into a bit of a rage at this point and we went over to confront them. It turned out that they had just returned from holiday and, not wanting to leave a bin outside their house for weeks, asked their son to take it down to the high street where the small cluster of village shops have large bins for collection. It turns out he couldn't be bothered with a half mile walk so dropped them in ours as an easy way out. The mother was mortified and couldn't apologise enough.

even better are newcastle council who wanted to charge me for a new bin when someone stole it on collection day

put the bin out at 8am before work , went to get it after work and it wasnt there

they accused me of being uncareful and of leaving my bin outside

serious WTF

I've got a mate who had his bin stolen, rang the council who said it would cost them £20 to replace. Its a right con.

Not much makes me LOL before 8am, but this did. :D

Anyone else starting to reckon the original reason the rubbish has been put in several bins is that it contained the dismembered parts of the last person to complain?

Alas, the same fate appears to have befallen the OP...

Am I the only one who thinks all these 'Bin/Recycling' Regulations are a complete waste of time and are merely there to squeeze yet more cash out of people through Fines and Penalties?

I'm just waiting for the day that the UK Govt. makes it illegal to be not doing anything illegal just because they couldn't Fine you for it.

I had mine stolen and set on fire at the end of the street. Council wanted £32 for a new bin.

Luckily I acquired one for free when someone I knew was moving out of a rented property because the landlord went AWOL with the mortgage company. :o:D:cool:

update.

Went round to them and they ignored me wouldn't open the door.

so left their bag of rubbish on their doorstep.

Bin men came round this morning and took them all anyway even the ones that were not closed properly.

WTF was the point in not taking it the first time then!!!!

So after reading most of this thread I decided to have a look at my local councils policy on bins. Turns out our lids must be "closed" and have the handles facing away from the road. On my drive to work on bin day I see many facing every possible direction including sideways, lids partially open, lids fully folded back and bags sticking out. Every single bin as far as i'm aware still gets picked up.
My only complaint about our local council is that our recycling is done in 2 storage style boxes, and on windy days these get blown about everywhere and their contents spilled all over the streets.

Our council is good in that sense. We have 3 full size bins, one for general waste, one for recycling and one for garden waste.

its not the council, it's the jobsworth bin men. The ones here are sound and I've even seen them walk up paths to collect some from the bungalows down the road. Sometimes the oaps are ill, or just forget. Always seem them having a break around the corner with one old lady who gives them tea and cakes, that's been going on for at least 10 years.

The bin men round here are ok, well they are now, the old ones where jobworths, but these new guys I think one of them is polish and they're sound - they don't care how you present your bin and will take a bag if you ask.
