Discoussion of competitor prices

My understanding is that you can discuss places like Amazon and eBay as long as you're not mentioning PC equipment on there. So examples like air con, phones and LED lighting are ok to discuss and link. PC equipment btw means contemporary PC equipment. Vintage computing isn't a problem from shopping point of view.

You can discuss prices on an apple forum or prices on steam forums and other very high maintained companies et al. This is a rule that only OcUK does. No other company is bothered. Just OcUK.

Seems silly and immature TBH.

You can hardly blame them though.

Also, et al means "and all", so you are sort of contradicting yourself a bit here

why? Other companies don't care. Competition is competition. You can go to other company forums and discuss their prices vs ocuk for example.

it's their forum, they can be as "draconian" as they want. don't like it then leave, etc. (not specifically saying this to you, but this should be clear to anyone who posts in any forums anyway)

i think it's fine to discuss products they don't sell, and for example if someone asks "what's the best item for x" then you can say "y is the best item for you but ocuk don't have it/yet". and it's also fine to discuss non-core products as well as digital distribution. so games, mugs, etc. are ok to talk about.

it's quite fair in a sense and i wouldn't hold it against other forums' moderators if they started doing the same.

Their forum, their rules. If you don't like it, then don't use it.

We would rather our forums not be used to advertise our competitors. Simple as really, not really much more to explain.

If you want to compare prices I am sure you can find many other ways to do it other than post it on a forum.

Even with prices in general something may appear more expensive or cheaper one site to another but can end up the complete opposite when you factor in delivery.

Even then think about after care which this company seems to pride itself on. I am confident that I can get great help from these forums and OcUK on any item purchased from them.

What about the inconsistent moderation over the word Amazon?

For example I'm never sure when to use it as different moderators, depending on their mood it seems, will react differently. I've had posts removed for mentioning that I've pre ordered X game on Amazon or that a game is available on Amazon, neither of which Overclockers sell nor is selling games part of the core business?

Pricing is being enforced, even though it's not in the rules.
e.g. if you say "I bought productX for £130"
if OCUK sells that for £150, you'll find the thread closed.

They can't exactly write this rule without breaking the rule in the process.
I can't elaborate for the same reason.

I can think of at least two other large OcUK competitors with forums (obviously) with the same rules. But I can't mention them, oh the irony.

'et al' means 'and others' when referring to a number of people or 'and elsewhere' when referring to other occurrences in a body of text.

Fair enough. Buy what If I say I paid x amount of money for my x hardware item when I bought it second hand? i.e no mention of competitor, just the price.

Is price discussion allowed if no competitors are mentioned? (new or 2nd hand)
