Hi guys,
Just set up my BenQ XL2411T today after receiving it and WOW the framerate is so noticeale and smooth but how comes I am getting serious screen tearing without V-Sync, even on games that run under 120-144FPS?

Anyone with the same Monitor have the same problems?

Tom

Its just a little annoying because I payed that money for a monitor with a high refresh rate and low input so I would be able to play the majority of games without V-Sync.
Now that I am getting really bad tearing I was wondering how could it be the monitor as the framerate is under the refresh rate. :/

i do see slight tearing on some maps on UT99

also if i move my mouse fast i see like the map like this | | | | | | | | | | | so i just wonder if its suppose to be like this also?

using 250gts 1gb

pritty old game but u would expect to see the whole map when u turn fast, not some | | | | | | version of the map

What are frames are you getting on UT99 with that card, because if you have V-Sync off you could be going over 144 frames which would cause tearing?

To clarify some of the points above. It is still possible to see some degree of tearing even if the frame rate is not exceeding the refresh rate of the monitor. Even highly responsive monitors like the BenQ don't process the signal instantaneously and things do go out of sync from time to time, causing tearing.

According to the Opticians I have eyesight the equivalent of a Jet Fighter Pilot lol
Also...yeh back to the point, do you guys play with V-Sync on then of do you just ignore any tearing that is going on?

Thankyou for your help, always thought that screen tearing would not occurs if the frame rate was under the refresh rate. Learn something new everyday! ;)

I only use vsync if the game doesn't dip below 120 FPS and there aren't many of those (L4D2 however runs at nearly 300 FPS if I let it).

Tearing is annoying but it's not applicable to all games thankfully, BF3 for example runs between 60-110 FPS and I never see any tearing where as Crysis 3 is tear heaven :)

Yep I thought that would be the best idea, Playing BF3 at the moment and I play it with V-Sync on as there is little to no input lag also without V-Sync I still notice screen tearing even though it is so minimal.
You are definetly right that all games are different, some play differently with V-Sync with little tearing and others are awful.

P.S Still need to get myself L4D! :P

Yeah games can vary, monitors too though. My old 120hz panel was the Alienware OptX AW2310 and I upgraded last year to the Samsung SA700D. On the alienware I got crazy tearing in BF3 among other games but the Samsung does not. Response times didn't differ much either (alienware was 3ms, this samsung is 2ms). No idea how the BenQ matches up against those two though :)

Best remedy though is to loosen up graphic settings, most of the time there's barely any difference between x4 AA and x4 million (joking of course, but you get the point :p)

Well to be honest like others have said they don't notice it.
It is me aswell, pretty fussy to be honest and notice things like that, the tearing is very minimal!

Also would any of you know how the commands in console work on games like CS:GO as I have been experimenting with the fps_max command as others say it fixes the screen tearing?

Tom

Yeah the fps_max will basically limit the maximum FPS, kinda like vsync but at a configurable FPS and it doesn't kick in unless you're exceeding that FPS, which I imagine most graphics cards would in CS:GO - not exactly a demanding game :)

Strange as I set it to fps_max 59 and it plays with no input lag even with V-Sync but anything above 59 causes serious input lag!
Does that mean that my monitor is running at 60Fps in-game?
