BMW 1 Series - brake pads/discs

You must have more money than sense to pay that ridiculous sum of money for such a simple service operation.

I think she has proven she is not thick by at least asking in here, try reading the whole thread it's not as cut and dried as you might think :)

I would however have personally rung around at least 6 BMW dealerships and told them specifically I was looking for the cheapest quote

even at over £100/hr you would think 1 hr max to do front and rear with all the equiptment to hand

ref the OP - whats the sensor thats getting replaced ?

something that has gone faulty - or every time you replace pads you have to replace some pad sensor ?

Yep. The sensors effectively short out when the plastic or whatever it is wears out and make contact with the brakes.

I bought Pagid brake pads and a sensor from eurocarparts and fitted them myself. Cost me less than £40!

It's a bit of a pain to access the sensor cable as it's housed behind the wheel arch cover.

£430 for brake pads? My word.

Does anyone have any reasonably definitive information as to whether BMW would tell you to shove your warranty if you did the work yourself, out of interest?

Aslong as the parts meet OEM specification (as all E90 marked brake linings do) then I would expect no problems whatsoever.

180 minutes of labour @ £160+vat = £192. The rest is parts. so £250 for brake pads for a diesel 1 Series, parts only. Thats why this quote is so bonkers, because they charge so much for the OEM pads. The labour cost is not exactly cheap but is about what you'd expect from a main dealer. Frankly even if you'd have gone to a cheap indy if you'd have insisted on the OEM pads you'd still have been paying £300ish.

Bonkers money for parts.

It is a ridiculous parts price indeed, especially when I got a complete set of discs and pads (Pagid) for my car for just over £100. Granted this included a Eurocarparts discount but still.

Edit: 3 hours of labour, for brake pads?!

I got genuine VW/Skoda rear discs and pads for my Octavia VRS from a main dealers online parts shop for £99 delivered. £250 for two sets of pads is just bonkers.

Well this was the final bill if anyone's interested....

£213.11 for parts
£218.39 for labour

I didn't buy this car thinking that it'd be cheap to run :p All I know is that I wanted an upgrade from my VW Lupo :D

surely colour was important :)

but seriously, why would anyone buy a diesel if it wasn't for economy

petrol equivalent is cheaper to buy smoother and in the case of ED BMW's pretty economical as well

LOL HOW MUCH????

I didnt pay that for a full set and front discs on my focus ST and that has way bigger brakes than a 1 series ecoderv. BMW do sure know how to rape their customers, my Sister in law has just paid £1800 for clutch and brakes on a Mini
