Women are not funny.

I think women are funny in normal every day situations when they aren't having to force themselves to be funny infront of an audience. My wife for example is very quick to make witty remarks and make light of funny things that I may not have spotted and I find her hilarious when I'm with her in a non-social situation.

However, she can't tell a joke to a group of people for toffee, and then just reverts back to the normal female stereotype of joking about their anatomy, their looks or how they compare to men.

Also, I don't think women are very good at timing. A common thing I've found with female comedians is that they'll just say a joke at a constant speed with no attempt at timing the punchline at all.

Obviously there will always be exceptions, but these are general things I've noticed.

Shappi Korsandi.

Probably butchered the spelling of her name, by by god not only is she stunning she is hilarious :D

She has legs like cocktail sausages.

If that's your thing, knock yourself out.

This is a fair point. There are plenty of times where women have made me laugh, and the more unpredictable it is, the better. But when they plan their lines it fails every time.

Do you think that's because to tell a story you have to command an audience. Men's voices are suited to that, as with speeches, (not sure why but you I think humans/men/women prefer low noises to high pitch ones) and women's higher pitch/tone will discourage you from listening.

Dawn French and that extremely dense woman with the strong country accent in Vicar Of Dibley made me laugh quite heartliy xmas just gone, probably the only episode of that particular show I've ever watched but for some reason I was in freaking stitiches!:D(very rare for me I'm normally a miserable ****!)

It was the episode where Dawn French was invited to 3 or 4 xmas dinners and accepted all the invitations for fear of offending her parishoners, it was probably crap and I was just laughing due to being a bit ****ed, apart from that I can't really say I've ever been particularly tickled by comediennes either.

Having said that, Miss Jones(can't be bothered googling actresses name) in Rising Damp was quite funny and June Whitfield, Barbara Windsor and Joan Simm in their heydays (early carry on films particularly) were pretty good value at times. Also found Diane Keaton in some of the Woody Allen films to be amusing.

As was said above women can be very funny in the right situations, they just seem to be particularly bad at standup comedy for some reason.

I don't want this to be a sexist thread and I am not being sexist in the slightest. But women are just not funny.

There's not many funny female stand-ups on TV but that's more to do with the TV production companies than how many funny women there are. I've seen a lot of funny women on the London stand-up circuit and they never seem to get the same breaks that their male counterparts do. One of the big issues is that one talent agency provides virtually all of the comedians you see on mainstream TV. If you don't fit their profile of a comedian, you don't get on TV.

I think it's also fair to say that comedy is a very subjective matter and that I find a lot of the male comedians on TV very unfunny too.

Muchos concurring over hear, my female friends are way funnier than my male ones, but it just doesn't seem to work in a audience situation.

Also, you guys pile on a dude for saying Shappi is hot, but ignore the fact that someone else said that this is too:

:p

Lol!:D She's hardly a household name and I haven't watched Rising Damp or seen her in anything for many years so I'll forgive myself for the name slip......if that's ok!

Shes only appeared in the highest grossing film franchise of all time as well.
And in one of the highest grossing films of all time as recently as 2010.

Shes not exactly "that bird from rising damp" ;)

I think this is apt

Apt in more ways than one, in that I found it pretty damn funny. :D

If we're being pedantic, 'funny' is objective so really the thread title doesn't work. It should be 'I don't find women funny'.

Victoria Coren is amazingly funny on the quiz show 'Only Connect', and it's a mixture of scripted stuff and off the cuff quips. Lucy Montgomery was great in Tittybangbang as Tom Cruise and Pete Wade (amongst others), even if a lot of the show wasn't up to the same standard. Caroline Aherne was brilliant as Mrs Merton but nothing else she's done has been quite as good, character-wise. And, as mentioned, Victoria Wood writes some amazing stuff and gets the best out of Julie Walters, Celia Imrie etc.

Two amazing stand-ups you won't really find many (or any) clips of are Josie Long and Joanna Neary, because they only do live stuff. Always hilarious at the '9 Lessons and Carols for Godless People' shows.

Sue Perkins - i personally find her brilliant, witty dry and sarcastic. My kinda funny woman.

Nonsense you sexist, their are loads of fantastic female comedy actors, writers and standups!
For instance:
Amy Poehler
Joan Rivers
Sara Schaefer
Janeane Garofalo
Isy Suttie
Lisa Lampanelli

I'd like to be clear that I am referring to stand-up specifically, plenty of funny females in sitcoms, sketch shows and films. Panels shows are hit and miss though.
