Anyone ever become an atheist after believing?

Grew up a Christian, became Agnostic at around 19. Don't think I'll be an Atheist, don't like the thought of definitively telling myself something without proof either way. But, who knows.

It's not the theists who reject the big bang, but rather the atheists. They wish to maintain the universe is eternal so there's no possibility of a creator. However, with strong evidence of the universe coming into existence, that argument is slowly fading.

An eternal universe isn't necessarily a contradiction to a creator so in what way is the argument slowly fading?

Oh dear, the guy must be suspended more than he is active! What was it this time?

He unfortunately has a tendency to resort to insults when he either doesn't understand something or faced with a different perspective, even when it is relative to his own beliefs rather than in opposition to them.

I presume he means that if the universe was eternal in the past, there wouldn't be a question to answer concerning the coming into existence of the universe.

Hmmmn. Yes and no. The latest thinking offers up the idea that this universe is simply a soap bubble that has pushed its way through belonging to an even greater one. So it accomodates both :)

I'm not sure what to make of that one! Not sure how it would stack up to the well established big bang cosmology theory.

Yes it could be. I'm not entirely sure how many hold these multiverse notions. It certainly seems that someone who wants to follow the evidence would hold the big bang view given that nobody really knows if multiple universes do actually exist, or whether we could even test for them given they would be outside of our own observable universe.

I think quite a lot of people who are versed in this kind of physics support the multiverse theory, and I don't think they're mutually exclusive. I personally doubt that we could ever test the multiverse theory, but who knows.

If "God" does not exist it can never be disproven, you can not disprove something that does not exist. So yeah you're stuck as agnostic bro.

He was great and an ex boxer but it was during his time that I started to lose religion. I got dismayed by people making their own religious rules up (including myself) and the straw that broke the camels back was when he invited another church up from down South. There was about 30 of them and they camped out in the Church Hall and me and a mate decided to crash by going through a basement door we had keys for. Before going in we watched from a slit and it was an all out orgy  I kid you not. The following day I questioned their leader and he just said that we were all children of God and it was OK because it was all love etc.
That was the moment (as well as other experiences) that made me realise it was a load of bull and I missed out on poontang.

You have restored my faith.
