*** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

Great to hear someone is happy with their BlackBerry Z10 purchase, as there is a lot of negativity out there claiming the Z10 is the fail nail in BlackBerry's coffin...

Lulwut?

I'm no BB fan. However I've read good and bad reviews of the Z10 and nowhere has anyone mentioned it's the "fail nail in Blackberry's coffin."

Pity if that turns out to be true, I've been in and out of a good few phone shops in the past week or so looking at Sony XZ and HO's and I keep seeing the Z10 and thinking it looks great, I thought it would invigorate Blackberry community and sales, maybe the new financial year will bring loads of business orders.

The Z10 is a big success. If there is a failure, it will be that they were too late to market and sort themselves out. The phone is just fine.

The only issues are around BB10 itself. The first release of the new O/S, it's hardly surprising there are some niggles. These are being addressed, and the O/S can only get better. Bear in mind some of the BB10 complaints are unwarranted, as people are just not aware of how to use the phone fully (i.e. the feature they want exists they just haven't found it yet... most of the stuff is in the manual... but I can't imagine many people read it).

Proof of this please??...from what ive been reading, its been pretty successful for Blackberry and people are sitting up and taking notice of the BB10.

Last week to give you an example...Blackberry had a booth setup in Westfield Stratford for 5 days, i spent about 2 days myself there and everytime i was there, there were quite a few people having a look round and playing with the devices. I went on Sat as i wanted to speak to one of the BB tech guys there but even then it was pretty busy...again lots of people having a look and playing around with one. So theres a lot of interest here from what i saw and BB are doing this as a nationwide tour, i posted the dates somewhere earlier in this thread.

Of course there are other reports out there that are saying that Blackberry is dead etc etc but a few of them have now backtracked on their previous claims.

Like scougar said above me, its a new OS like Android and iOS were many yrs ago so it will have bugs/niggles etc but they will be sorted out...in fact an update was put out last week for both Canadian and UK users of the Z10 which has fixed a lot of bugs and the battery life now is absolutely immense...on mine for sure but even before the update my phone was decent battery wise but now its even better.

But final nail??...not by a longshot and remember it hasnt even launched in America yet. Americans that are desperate to get hold of one are either going across the border to Canada or getting someone in Canada to send them one.

American launch i think is later this month from what ive been hearing and reading. So it will be interesting to see how it does there. And there are rumours that another bigger update will be out by the time of the American launch ie a few new big name apps and probably a new updated OS with some missing functionality.

As for me??, ive had mine for about a week now and i absolutely love it. Sure there are a few things missing for me ie a few apps that i had on my 9900 havent made it over to BB10 but thats because some API's havent been made available to devs yet but will be opened up later im hoping.
But other than that im very happy with mine, it feels nice in the hand, much better than my S3, my mums iphone4 and even the iphone5 which i dont own but a friend of mine does. Definitely happy i went with the black one rather than the white one as the black one feels much much nicer in the hand.
The call quality of this phone is out of this world, get HD quality calls and it sounds amazing...noise cancelling on this phone is immense, seeing as usually my missus sometimes has a tough time making what im trying to say on the phone but with the Z10, she says its like your right next to me.

I wouldn't say the Z10 has been a big success, nor a big failure. It seems very so-so at the moment.

A massive improvement on BlackBerry of old but not something that is really better than the iPhone/Android phones at anything really.

I happen to know that quite a few large business are switching from BlackBerry to iPhone which is bound to hurt BlackBerry as they've always done well in that sector.

Only time will tell.

But then again, I know of a few large businesses who are impressed with the security of the Blackberry and is therefore switching/upgrading to the Z10.

Good luck to them and i truly mean that, with the amount of holes iOS has, im absolutely staggered as to why any large company would want iphones on their business servers. Same goes for Android, a huge exploit was found a few days ago on how to bypass the lock screen...as usual dont think anyone posted it here but i found it pretty funny that Samsung/Android think they are ready for enterprise security when they are nowhere close.

Another thing i love about my Z10 is the keyboard...i swear the Z10s keyboard is on steroids:p. It just knows what i want to type out...of course the more you type the more intuitive the keyboard becomes. I spend most of my time now swiping up rather than typing full words out, prediction is simply out of this world and having tried the iphone keyboard, which is good and various keyboards on the S3 ie swype and swiftkey...hands down the Z10s keyboard is better than all of them...i can type just about anything on the z10 and it 9/10 times it will bring up the word im wanting to use. Originally i was wary about the z10 keyboard and was going to hold out for the Q10, which is the QWERTY keyboard model but now im not even interested in the Q10...the keyboard on the z10 is really that good.

One other thing i find funny is that now that ive been using my z10 for a week or so, im finding myself swiping on my s3:p and even on my mums iphone4...i keep swiping to minimise apps or close them down...only to find that it doesnt work:p:D.

Right thought id post an update. Last Wed i decided to kick Tmobile to the curb as their data speeds in and around London are atrocious to say the least. On my Z10 i was lucky to get more than 5mbps download and less than 1mb upload.

So i ported my number over to Vodafone, who have put me on a 12mth rolling sim for £22 a mth, i get unlimited calls, texts and 2gb of data rather than 1gb...although for the first 3mths im on unlimited data which i think is part of their data test drive etc.

Anyhow finally managed to get my number ported over yesterday and thought id do a speedtest today on my Z10, the speedtest app i have on my z10 has been sideloaded as there isnt a version out yet for the Z10 but it works perfectly fine though.

Have to say thats a fair bit faster than EE's so called 4G network which iirc only offers speeds from 8-12mbps??. At the moment my phone is connecting to the HSDPA + and thats when i ran the test.

Have to say im pretty impressed with the speeds so far.

EDIT: I know my ping is crazy high but that was the first test i have done, did 5 more tests and it came down to 59ms:p...still getting over 20mbps down and 5 mbps up. Compared to my S3, put my voda sim in that and did the test, best out of 5 tests i did was getting a 11mbps down and 1.3mbps up...which doesnt seem very good even though my S3 is connected to H+ on the voda sim :/. Put my tmobile sim in my z10, i use it in my S3 and checked the speeds, again lucky to get 5mbps down and 1.1mbps.

`I'm not surprised Vodafone is faster than EE for you, as that sort of thing varies massively with area, but I AM surprised you got such different results for 2 different phones on the same network! Really don't get how that could be!

I don't think the original S3 had dc-hsdpa did it? That would probably explain it. Both hdspa+ and dc-hsdpa would show up as "H+" in the notification bar but dc should provide about twice the speed.

Get around 30mb down on Three on my Nexus 4 too, dc-hsdpa in my area.

Which exploit was this? I saw a Samsung one where you could get to limited home screen icons in specific circumstances but it was only on the pattern lock which I don't imagine many enterprises would let pattern lock be used anyway.

Although I don't administer it we've been allowed Android in a (very) large enterprise environment for a good while now without any issue I'm aware of.

Neither do i in all honesty, i ran 5 tests on each phone so that the results would settle down as you can see in my posted pic that my ping was stupidly high but it did come down after a few more tests.

Like i said it seems to me that the Z10 gets a faster download and upload compared to the S3 on the same network ie vodafone. I know tmobile/EE are terrible speeds wise, ive known that for a long time but was happy staying with tmobile until Voda offered me a 12mth rolling sim which i couldnt refuse.

My S3 on both Voda and tmobile show up as H+ although with the tmobile sim, it doesnt hold the H+ connection very well...i can see it fluctuate between H+ and 3G every so often whereas on the voda sim, it holds the H+ connection very well, hardly fluctuates.

Like i said i dont know why on the voda network the results are so different ie the Z10 a lot faster than the S3 that i have. Ive run the tests on both phones at least 5 times so that the results would settle down. But as far as i can see my Z10 is much faster than the S3 according to speedtest. In real world tests ie browser testing, it seems that both phones are pretty similar when browsing the net so maybe the speedtest is reporting it incorrectly.

Its this flaw here: http://www.itproportal.com/2013/03/07/samsung-galaxy-s3-contains-same-security-flaw-as-note-2/

Dont know if they have fixed that flaw with an update though as i havent turned on my S3 since getting my Z10...at some point i need to get round to selling the phone.

Thats a Samsung flaw not an Android flaw. You can't really do much with it, most apps don't work even if you can get to the icon for that split second.

I doubt many enterprises would allow pattern unlock anyway.

I've had an iPhone 3G, 3GS & 4. I then decided that I'd give BlackBerry a chance so picked up a Bold 9900.

It's been an OK phone at best. The keyboard is great, best typing experience I've had. The screen is nice and clear and the battery life was OK for me. The thing that has really disappointing me about the 9900 was the amount of freezes it had. I could just be typing a text message and the hour glass would appear for 30 seconds. I could be taking a picture, the hourglass would appear, on Twitter, Facebook, anything... This constant freezing issue has really made me hesitant to get a Z10 once my contract is up and it's making me lean back towards iPhone. That, plus the camera. I love to take pictures and the camera on the 9900 isn't great, and looking at comparison shots, the Z10 falls short of the iPhone 5 camera.

I'm in a bind
