free xbox gold this weekend

Sometimes I don't turn on my Xbox because the dashboard is so bad

Yes, for the first time in seven years of owning the 360 I now make it boot straight to disc. The latest dash is just abysmal. I can pour a jar of Tate & Lyle treacle into a jug quicker than waiting for that dash to load.

Wow Microsoft are so generous! Meanwhile Sony are giving away Mass Effect 3 and Dead or Alive 5 this week to its members :)

You can get PS+ cheaper than that, what do you get from Microsoft that is worth 30 quid a year? Party chat? Woo.

yessssssss free multiplayer just what ive always wanted thanks MS your so kind.

It's like I've gone back in time 6 years or something.

Well you could answer me, what makes the XBL sub worth the £30 or so?

That's subjective, if you don't think it's worth it then don't buy it :)

Personally I find the cross game party chat, seamless integration and unified invite system worth the yearly cost.

People bang on about PSN+ but really is having to pay to get auto updates and cloud storage a reason to rejoice? Yes you get free games but nothing most gamers would already have picked up, the free games benefit those who do not buy games for the PS3.

If I played games online on the 360 then I'd have to buy it, though I'd probably buy it anyway in that case for the cross game chat as it is a useful feature. Does XBL automatically download patches for you while it's off? It's a really nice feature of PS+ certainly beats waiting for patches to download especially if they are ridiculously sized ones like in BF3 and GT5.

As for the free games some of them have been very recent releases, not everybody buys games constantly. I myself play games every day for at least 4 hours and I've only got a couple of games that have already been offered through PS+, it is a decent service and the features do make it worth the yearly subscription price. I just asked how XBL was really worth it when the only trick it seems to have is cross game chat.

And the seamless integration and unified invite system, as I said.

Not being able to invite a friend to your lobby in GT5 for example highlights the above point :)

GT5 is terrible online though, an afterthought tacked on with little care and it shows. A popular online game like Call of Duty or FIFA is literally two button presses to invite a friend.

its a flagship game though, and highlights why PSN as a whole is an afterthought.

But as said all subjective and this could just go round in circles, you think Live has nothing worth the cost while I do so there is not much to be gained :)

My brother just bought himself a PS3, And signed up for the PSN+ freebie that was offered. He's currently download God of War HD. Shows how much of a bargain PSN+ is right there.

Obviously if you own the games then its less of a bargain. But to be honest I cant help but find that comment silly :p As if you're on a years sub, thats plenty of chance to grab a bargain(free is a bargain yes?!)

And i suppose if you own every game ever, well then...You'd probably be less inclined to buy PSN+ wouldnt you.

My brother is an offline player to be honest, So a lot of the features that live has, that are indeed superior(although I wouldnt say they're worthy of paying a sub), are never an issue with him, or a few other friends I have. So a free online option or a paid system that throw free games at you is perfect for them.

Also its a fantastic promo tool, With the new God of war on the horizon, Offering the HD remakes right now is bound to give people who wouldnt have before played the game a taster, and no doubt will improve sales in the long run.
