*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

I got a couple of docks from asus in the first batch - they are quite handy, I have one in the bedroom and use bedside app for clock/alarm etc, then one in the sitting room attached to the stereo for playing music, I like the way you can just sit it down without fannying about with cables - but i'm just lazy!
if they were cheaper i would have another couple - waiting for some dodgy chinese efforts!

Anyone ever have problems connecting to wifi networks?

I have updated to 4.2.2. I am visiting a client in bristol and i cant get the nexus to connect to the wifi network, the signal is quite poor but my blackberry 8520 can connect. It just keeps trying to "authenticating..." then does not get an IP.

Couple of questions about the homepage "My Library" widget...

Thumbnails from play store seem to be flaky... some show and some don't, any known fixes?

Anything better than the library? I have stuck a few non play store ebooks (.pdf) on it and would like them in a library type setup.

Any suggestions? :)

I managed to get one of the docks ordered from Play Store. Got the dispatch email earlier. Want to see if I can use USB OTG and have it charging at the same time whilst it sits in the dock.

i have installed some apps and tried out the total commander app, awesome. i realy like the device. i have turned off the suggestive keyboard as it was annoying, is it worth getting used to? the only thing i am struggling with is navigating some websites and what i find especially difficult is making posts on this forum. chrome zooms in too far i cant see all the textbox and if i make a spelling mistake i find it difficult to move the cursor. any suggestions? or will it just take time to get used to it.

there is just so many things to do on the device. i have not tried out those other interfaces yet that sit on top of android. :-)

Ordered one of these last night. I have an iPad 3 but I don't think we can compare the two because of the size.

Not sure if I will even use it to be fair, opted for the 16GB Wi-FI one. Though with something so small I would want 3G access - though its rare that I am out of the office and my phone (s3) can do what I need it to.
Will have to use it for a week or so and determine if its worth the money.

Want to use it around work mainly to have my emails on and WebEx chat, as well as taking notes etc. Though I could just do all of this on my iPad.

A friend bought a iPad mini and I really liked the size and weight - too expensive though (at least for a 2nd tablet). Hence buying the N7

I thought android supported flash, bit disappointed they removed support 6 months ago and replaced it with html5. In my opinion html5 sucks for video and it was a bad idea. Stuff like flipboard still uses flash and i have all these broken videos even after installing flash from unofficial sources. I can get flash to work in firefox and it works fine so i don't see why it was removed. Any way to get videos working in flipboard?

edit: nevermind i got it working, sorry.

I have rooted the device and managed to setup ssh tunnel to my dedicated server. So awesome. Using total commander lan plugin and vlc i can stream movies over wifi without any hassle. It does not work with 1080 bluray rips, i think because i am using the wireless g bt business hub. I will try get a faster wap and see if it works with 1080 bluray. I am using foobar controller to play music on my pc through wifi, also awesome.

What is the best launcher app? I have tried nova so far.

what are the best apps for a rooted device?i know its been asked before and have tried using the thread search option.

I have a Nexus 7 32Gb with 3G, did buy the 32G wifi only but sold it on MM and upgraded to 3G and use it with Samba mobile so there's no cost of the 3G :D Works out brilliantly.

We do have an iPad 3, bought just last year and my wife used it mostly, but now she's pinching my N7 as she prefers browsing on it and of course it has multi-user support so she can do her stuff without messing up my profile etc. Don't get me wrong I really like our iPad but it's not as comfortable for certain jobs and the app stores are no comparison - I love the android one, get 99% of what I want free. Build quality wise I couldn't really put anything between them, would like to compare the N7 and iPad mini side by side but these days the Android OS has won me over so I doubt I'll look back.

Nothing better than transfering movies to the N7, plug into PC, pops up as a drive, drag and drop. The whole device is simple to use and hassle free. Just wish I could port my Apple store purchases over.
