If you were in a very large featureless field that stretched for 1 km in each direction, and you and a very skittish cat where at the centre of it, do you think you would be able to chase down the cat and catch it? They can run very fast at short distances but I wonder how it things would work out in such an environment with longer distances? if you like you can substitute the cat for a hare or other small and fast animal that you wouldn't expect to catch by hand.

No, whilst cats only run short distances they can do it many, many times. I know because one of my young cats runs like hell if you try and catch him outside but he only runs as far as he needs to. Then he just sits and waits, by the time you finally get near him again he runs again and his stamina will outlast yours.

Also add in the fact your average, healthy house cat can run faster than Usain Bolt and you've got no chance.

How big is the cat, is it likely to want to eat me should I catch it?

How long is the grass and what colour?

What way is the wind blowing?

Is it day or night? Cloudy or clear?

No mostly because whilst they only move quickly over shorter distances they can change direction far quicker than you can as my own experiences have proven when trying to medicate my own cat.

If you took some tuna with you our Murray would run to you then roll round at your feet pretending to be your cute best mate.

No-one here could ;)

You think theres not a single capable runner on the forum? I think he more probable issue is a 1km field is too small. If it was a 1km room, I'd take bets on the forum, but I wouldn't wanna kill a cat to prove my point. :P
