Poll: HTC One vs BB Z10 vs Iphone 5

Well mine definitely is laggy especially if i go into the RAM manager and close apps down, it then takes a few secs to re-draw the homescreen.

Dont know it could be the apps i have, perhaps some of them arent optimised for the GS3 but i havent got the time nor energy to figure out why its so laggy at times. Even when playing music and playing a game say temple run...i find the game stutters every so often and the music starts cutting in and out. Tried restarting the phone, going into RAM manager and closing down apps to release some memory but after a little while it happens again :/. Whereas my Z10, i can play music, play a game...look at some emails/messages and it doesnt miss a beat.

The one great thing i like about my Z10 is that i no longer have to dual wield ie GS3 and my BB9900, which i used to do a few weeks back before i got my Z10. My Z10 is now the only device i carry round now.

Also I think the Blackberry OS looks much better, and more polished. I like the idea of gestures to navigate me to other programs or menus.

Android.........

- change to whatever you desire
- many many launchers/apps out there that allow you to use any gesture you can think of to perform a certain action, be it in the browser or on homescreen etc.

:D :p

You should never be closing apps down in ram manager. I have a feeling you were always on power save mode. The S3 is very fluid and does not lag at all, I heard the very same thing from some iPlebs I know from work - ex iphone owners who now own an S3 and complained it wasn't running smooth. They ALL had power save mode on, one of them was playing temple run and it was running like a slide show.

Edit: From the phones listed in OP, I'd get the HTC One. It looks the most appealing to me.

Of course it does, you're forcing it to load everything again.

:eek:holy **** thanks for pointing that out, i never knew it was meant to do that :D

On a serious note, yes i know its loading everything back up but as i said ive been noticing that its getting quite laggy. Forget about the homescreen lag but im also finding games and some apps being very laggy especially when you escape out of the app/game ie not shutting it down completely.

Every other day im finding myself rebooting my S3 whereas almost 2 weeks of owning my Z10, ive only rebooted it once and that was when i was downloading the latest OS update.

Anyhow didnt want to start an arguement, just giving my opinion that in my opinion, i think the Z10 is better phone out of all them OS wise.

Just checked my settings in the S3, i dont have nor have i ever enabled power saving mode so thats not causing the lag or anything:confused:

I dont always use the RAM manager to shut down apps, sometimes i just leave the apps running the background or i double click on the home button and close them through the task manager. Still doesnt stop it from lagging every so often.

Perhaps your GS 3 is on its way out with regards to the sudden death issue as those seem to be the first symptoms, slow down, then reboots and then it never wakes up again.

Maybe...hopefully it wont die before i sell it:p.

Only thing that is lacking with the Z10 i find is the apps but every day more apps are coming out and the apps i cant get on the Z10, i can just sideload the android version to my Z10. So really im not missing any apps that much.

Unfortunately that only works for simple apps, and the performance isn't stellar.

If you find the S3 laggy then it must be a living hell for you to use a ported Android app.

Or may be it will and you'll be able to sell your replacement for more cash.

In the past week or so as I look at the new android flagships on yt I keep seeing and viewing Vids with the BBz10 in and tbh it looks great, ran away with the users poll on phonedog, I like what I see and think it deserves more success but no one is gonna give it that it has to take it.

IMHO BB should give a €100 credit on the phone for apps and other data and give the carriers €50 to cut contract price by a couple of quid a month, they need to get out and grab market share and tie folk into their software, the huge discount will get more folk into BB world and the money would all go into supporting BB app build also I presume a % of each sale goes back to BB anyway, Apple has good PS because apple users BUY apps this stimulus would create the same atmosphere in BB app development.

The figures need to be big to get the amount of market movement BB need, current users should get the credit after all the aim is to stimulate the BB app world.

IMO this would give BB the market share and app scene to fight for market from an even footing in the future.

LOL well so far 2 weeks in and my ported or should i say sideloaded android apps work perfectly fine and are pretty smooth when using them. Thats not to say they wont bog down the z10 but as of yet, 2 weeks in and one reboot...i havent seen them cause any huge issues with my Z10 compared to my S3 which gets laggy after a few days or so.

Simple apps?? performance isnt stellar??...please tell me which apps you are talking about??. If your talking about the native apps??, then from what i can see on my Z10 the native apps or the ones that are built using cascades are very smooth. Cant speak for apps that arent built with cascades as i havent downloaded them because one, they dont interest me and secondly im not a huge app whore...i only download apps that i find are useful to me.

I'm talking about the sideloaded apps not performing well - things like scrolling and page rendering. I own a Z10 and an S3 so maybe I'll find some good examples and make a side by side video.

You can only convert simple apps without code changes. I look after a number of apps and less than half of them can be successfully converted. The biggest causes of this is that a lot of apps use Google maps or place too much demand on the Z10.

That's not to say I don't like the Z10 though - I love it. Unfortunately I am a huge app whore though so once that picks up I'll like it even more. :D

Ahh right, well the only sideloaded apps i have from my S3 are imdb, speedtest, sky sports and sky+ and as i said i havent noticed a huge amount of lag in those apps...there is some lag but not to the extent that it annoys me. Once those apps are developed for BB10 then ill delete them, im just hoping that devs will develop them natively rather than port them from Android as to me that comes across as being lazy. a lot of the Android apps wont work on the Z10 like you said above, usually down to the runtime thats being used on the Z10 and the apps that are being converted are using a newer runtime...well thats about as much as i have understood so far:p. One app i am missing from my Z10 is flightradar pro, which i have on my S3...emailed the dev and hes not interested in making a version for the BB10. Could convert the apk to a bar file and see if it works but i dont want to pirate his work tbh as its a paid app. Even if i did convert the apk, there no guarantee that it will work. Can only hope that he changes his mind or someone else develops something similar to it themselves. Id do it but im no good with programming to be fair.

I know that at some point the Android runtime will be updated to the latest JB one on the Z10 so that should make things a bit more smoother. At the moment i think its running the gingerbread runtime which is ancient now:p.

Glad to hear that you like your Z10, i havent been able to put mine down for the past 2 weeks and my missus is getting annoyed as i tend to pay more attention to it then her:p. But im getting her one for her bday which is next week, she just doesnt know it yet:p. But even she loves the Z10, i see her every so often picking it up and looking at it lol.

Just a quick a poll.

All other things being equal such as contracts, payment plans etc but not price obviously. What is the phone you'd go for?

HTC One
HTC One S
BB Z10
Iphone 5
Iphone 5 S

if you want to add comments feel free
The One S is a bit old hat now but the One (love the naming conventions) is one of the best along with the Xperia Z but the former has the arguably the best smartphone screen but the latter has dust and water protection.

The question is, what would you use the phone for? Just social network and internet? Or gaming etc? Need more details!

As I said, just general use really.

I'm getting a bit annoyed with my Iphone 4S, it's just getting unstable even after 2 formats.

I'm just not sure if I want to jump back into another Iphone anymore, it's so locked down. I can't even shift songs, photos, or anything off the phone or onto it if I want to. Don't see the point in that at all.

Personally I love my N4 - reasonably priced then not restricted to the network and it's a lovely phone. BB have had their day and really can't see them coming back. Iphone as others have said is down to the OS. Having now experienced Android on the N4 i'm not sure I would want to go the IOS route (both daughter and wife have iphones, wife in particular will probably go Android - most likely the Note 2 when her contract lapses)
