690 or Titan?

I think when the word Titan gets mentioned, with some people all logic goes out the window.

All a Titan is, is a bit faster than a GTX 680 or HD 7970 and if anything it also comes with way more vram than is sensible. For 1440p I would never consider using a single Titan on its own, some of the latest games will bring it to its knees if run maxed out.

A GTX 690 will give far better performance under the above conditions. Or has been pointed out there are cheaper options like 2 x HD 7950s which would perform even better.

Titans are really nice cards but a single Titan will leave the owner disappointed in no time running 1440p

That was my point before, and people who said get a Titan for 1440p are making people waste their cash, 2 Titans bring the SLI "issues" and cost stupid money so i think what i said above is the way forward.

Rich people who have 2 Titans will be happy but i bet they upgrade next year. I bet Scotty has different cards next year from 3x Titans. And Kaap i bet you do aswell lol, but i you will keep the Titans haha?

If i never had a kid and holidays to pay for i would still struggle to press buy on a Titan tbh.

No I doubt it. If you want the best possible performance right now when it is supported then the 690 does this. If you would rather have sometimes slightly slower but consistent performance Titan does this very well.

If money is no option I would choose a Titan over 690 after playing all the latest games on both Titan is just a much better card as it is a single GPU.

Tbh at 1440p there is not much that will make a clocked up 680 or 7970 overly strained especially if you lower the AA which is not really needed on a 1440p screen as much.

Thats my point, you can get cards to run games if you lower settings. A Titan will run out of GPU muscle @1440p before a GTX 690 will run out of vram in most cases.

There's not many setups out there that can hold minimum fps to keep up with 120/144hz when settings are maxed. The reason I bother getting a decent card is for single player games or multiplayer games that don't require high framerates to play well. I play BF3 on low when playing competetively as it gives you an advantage, nearly every competitive fps gamer will as well.

It does come down to price, if the Titan was reasonably priced I would have had a few by now and maybe a few others would on this forum.

Don't be put off of a Titan for 1440p. That's what I'm doing and it's performing admirably so far. Really, you don't need to have silly amounts of AA anyway.

I play perfectly well with max settings so i dunno what advantage your on about? Im only 60hz though.

More future proofed
No sli worries
Better at high resolutions

GTX 690
Faster in most things provided sli support is there.
Not recommended above 1600p
 
I am confident that nothing will touch a Titan for 2 years (single core cards that is), so I would say go for a Titan. If in this time period games become sluggish, you can always add another.
